Carl Bernstein warns Trump against "trying to sabotage" Mueller investigation

The Hill
(Blog Briefing Room)
October 28, 2017

Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein suggested on Friday that President Trump has been trying to sabotage Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.

"There are very serious allegations accepted by the intelligence leaders of the United States, including those under Donald Trump - The Russians interfered in our electoral process, and there is an investigation into whether Donald Trump and those around him had foreknowledge of those attempts, and what their relationships were with Russians, business relationships that might have made them vulnerable to Russian objectives," Bernstein told CNN's Don Lemon on "CNN's Tonight".

"That's what Mueller is investigating and he ought to be able to have the opportunity, without the President of the United States trying to sabotage his investigations, to follow through, he continued.

The charges are sealed under a federal Judge's order, with sources telling CNN that those charged could be taken into custody as soon as Monday.

Right now Trump et al are more worried about the money laundering being exposed. Putin used Trump time tested tactic of putting HIM over the barrel. Trump's last 30 years stinks of money laundering, almost a textbook case.

Obstruction is the next chief concern for Trump.

Then collusion which is the hardest to prove.

As usual the press has covered this backwards. Most of the public have no idea it's a three pronged investigation and Trump's faithful have only heard about the collusion.

..helping Mueller with, and which may result in N.Y. state criminal charges.
If so, Trump will not be able to pardon anyone involved, since they would be state charges, not federal charges.

I wonder if a New York state money laundering indictment against Trump would be enough to persuade the House to impeach him?
(Even House Speaker Eddie Munster wouldn't be able to stop it if enough moderate GOP House members joined with House Democrats to vote for impeachment)

You're right ..."Obstruction is the next chief concern for Trump"
Wasn't that what ultimately brought Nixon down?

Remember in the early 70's you had a lot of WWII vets in Congress. They had a larger vision of their role and we hadn't gotten anywhere near the brand loyalty we have now.

provable offenses. Since frump can only be an "unindicted co-conspirator" there has to be a conspiracy to get to frump. So, a conspiracy to sell the powers of our government to other countries is a real, provable offense that could lead to impeachment or treason charges.

Let's hope you're right and they're targeting the russian money laundering and information sharing to establish a quid -pro-quo: "We'll launder your money if you get us elected."
