who was also executed for plotting to kill Lincoln (whether she was actually guilty is open to speculation). Interesting that she was overlooked at the link provided and only men are mentioned in the title.

there were no similar photos taken of Mrs. Surratt post-arrest. She was also allowed to stay veiled during the trial.

. . . much less any "colorized" versions thereof, and that's why she was "overlooked," as you put it.

So maybe it isn't "interesting" after all. Some things just are, you know?

and certainly one of them could have been "colorized". Not that being the first woman executed by the Federal government was a great achievement for feminists but Americans are so ignorant of their own history that most probably don't know that any one was executed for conspiring to kill Lincoln (most think John Wilkes Booth was the lone assassin - that's what I was taught). Might as well mention all the alleged conspirators.

Who think Mary Surratt was not aware of the plot to kill Lincoln and helped Booth by running errands for him, not to mention lying to the police when confronted about it...but there is some disagreement about whether her involvement was deserving of the death penalty, especially for a woman at that time.

Still amazing photos and an amazing story though.
