Trees down everywhere and the wind gusts nearly blew me off the road this AM.
But at least I have power at my house

(41,756 posts)That's the only reason I got to work - which lost power and closed as soon as I got there.
I dodged 36 dowed trees in the road - including driving under one hung up on the power lines.
I didn't see it through the wind and rain until I was directly under it!
Sucks is right.

(41,756 posts)Had to turn around and drive right back through it.
Didn't know what I was coming home to - but everything is alright.

(72,377 posts)Wires and trees down all over. Not like microburst or ice storm had, but not good either. Cmp is out in searsport. Gonna be awhile before they get down this far.

(8,311 posts)I'm not sure if houses that far north are designed so that a power outage from an ice storm damaging lines doesn't leave people freezing, but here we have a generator because Southern "central heat/air" units always need electricity, even when they are fueled by natural gas or propane, to turn on.
I ask because while it's not the dead of winter yet, we're having frost warnings in Arkansas, so I imagine Maine nights might be chilly. I'm glad you have power, and I would hope that your infrastructure designs up there account for heat being essential.

(41,756 posts)But if it was really cold, I have a big kerosene heater and half a dozen (metal tubular) kerosene lanterns to keep the place warm.
