What Would Happen if a Democratic Senator Voted Against Conviction

I have a co-worker who wants Trump to remain in office because he is less dangerous than Mike Pence.

He hates Trump as much as I do, but would rather a wounded and disgraced Trump in office than see a Pence presidency.

However, I told him that the Republicans would also like Pence instead of Trump, especially if the House votes to impeach.

Our conjecture goes like this: I believe that no Democrat can vote against conviction in the Senate and survive a Democratic primary. Let's say there are 65 votes for conviction and 35 against. Of the 35 against, 2 are Democrats. What do you think the reaction would be to those two Senators by the Democratic base?

1. Nixon was gonna be impeached for lot less.

2. Trump needs to go period...bad as the alternatives are...he is worse and more dangerous. The rule

of law can not be thwarted for political reasons. So yes, a Democrat who allowed a criminal president to remain in office would be in trouble and obviously unfit to serve.

3. Hopefully Pence will be found to be tangled up in this scandal as well.

In which case they can both get the boot.

Of course that means Paul Ryan, which could be even worse. It's a true dilemma - a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives.

5. Removing Turd will weaken the RePutins, no matter who takes over

or how far down the chain of command it goes.

Take him out and fight on until they are in tatters.

6. Remind them how Ford's credibility was ruined after pardoning Nixon. Pence might become President,

but he would just be a placeholder until the next election. He would accomplish less than Trumpy.
