General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPeople hate Hillary for a simple reason. And it has nothing to do with her or with politics.
They don't hate her because of her politics or her gender or this neverending feeling that there must be a scandal about her.
It's much simpler: They hate her because she's a celebrity.
Ordinary people are unimportant nobodies.
But people want to be recognized, people want to feel important.
That's why people prefer to believe in conspiracy-theories:
If there is no conspiracy, then you are an insignificant nobody.
If there is a conspiracy, then you are a hero fighting against evil.
That's why people become online-trolls:
They don't actually care that much for whatever topic they are posting about.
It's about the thrill of the fight, about "triggering" somebody and dragging them into a flame-war.
It's like a drug: A cheap victory. And they need their fix.
The worst you can do to these people is engaging them in a calm, factual conversation where you demonstrate your superiority over them by NOT freaking out.
And it's why people hate Hillary Clinton:
Hillary Clinton is a celebrity, you are a nobody.
If Hillary Clinton is evil, then opposing her makes you a hero.
If it weren't Hillary Clinton, it would be somebody else.
People hate her to give their empty, boring lifes a sense of excitement and importance.

(16,423 posts)How often has HRC boasted about grabbing younger men by the dick?
How often has HRC made racist remarks?
How often has HRC made remarks that could be proven with 5 minutes of googling?
How often has HRC walked away from bankruptcies unscathed?
How many business-deals has HRC cut with people connected to the russian mafia?
Hating Donald Trump doesn't make you special. It doesn't make you a hero. More than half the planet hates Donald Trump. Hating Donald Trump means, you are just like everybody else.
On the other hand, if you side WITH Trump, then you are the underdog again. The plucky hero fighting against the evil forces of evilness.
(That's why the Republicans love the rebel-imagery of the Confederacy.)
HRC had the campaign-slogan "Better together."
"Better together" means that everybody is equal. It means that you won't be special in Hillary's world.

This revisionist stuff is ridiculous. Just stop it.
I am exhausted with people silencing women, and always saying sexism and misogyny is something else.

They hate her for being a strong, independent woman and fighting for women's rights.

(82,383 posts)1. The willingness to believe anything bad about her without evidence;
2. The judging on her appearance/health
3. The willingness to blame her for anything that went wrong;
4. The judging her on Bill's actions
5. Judging her on a double standard, where men in similar situations don't get judged at all
6. The generalized statement that she is just not "likeable" without putting their finger on it

Also racism was more the norm & people entertaining civil rights were seen as dirty hippies.

(9,258 posts)The same people that hate HRC hate Nancy Pelosi for the very same reason, a visceral hate for the smart woman with power. I worked with such a person (female!) years before HRC ran for president and they were always spoken of (with intense derision) in the same sentence. Elizabeth Warren gets the same treatment; a good part of it is they are smart, successful OLDER women. We're supposed to be baking cookies for our grandchildren now.

(1,387 posts)Do you hate Trump ?
If you do hate Trump, is it because he's a celebrity ?
It's not his politics or vile personality you hate , but his celebrity ?
Clinton haters believe she is the anti-Christ for many reasons, none being that she's a household name.
I hate Trump for many reasons. If he had kept his mouth shut about Obama and hadn't run for the presidency, my dislike for him would still be there (self-aggrandizing bullshit artists are not my cup of tea), but my dislike would not have turned into the passionate hatred I now feel for him.

(14,853 posts)Many people believe what they WANT to believe, and that's how Trump won the electoral college.
If it wasn't for the white evangelical Christians, Clinton would've won the "white vote" too. Trump won the white evangelical Christian vote by 80% to 16% (4% voting for someone else), and they were 26% of all the voters.
Strongly religious people clearly believe what they WANT to believe -- e.g., the existence of a paradise afterlife without any evidence of such.
The same WANTS can apply to race (an ego boost based simply on skin pigmentation), country (being a citizen of the "greatest country" on Earth) and many other things.
Fox News tells them what they WANT to hear, fundamentally, and provides scapegoats when their faith is increasingly challenged by evidence even they can't ignore.
The so-called "liberal media" is more likely to challenge them, including their core beliefs that make them feel good about themselves, and they don't like it. It's like listening to "Debbie Downer" for them because their tolerance for challenging ideas is low. They just don't want to hear it!
Liberals to them:
Edit:
Scientists are generally trained to follow evidence and distrust what they WANT to believe, and here's their collective political persuasion:
http://www.people-press.org/2009/07/09/section-4-scientists-politics-and-religion/
Most scientists identify as Democrats (55%), while 32% identify as independents and just 6% say they are Republicans.

(14,853 posts)Some people ascribe political differences to "Social Dominance Theory" and there's indeed strong correlations that come from it -- e.g., people who seek social dominance instead of equality are more likely to vote Republican, etc.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_dominance_theory
However, many of the ideas that promote social dominance are rooted in the acceptance of myths. So I still contend that it's ultimately rooted in people believing what they WANT to believe.

(9,670 posts)That's it all takes for them. An object of their ire, their hatred, their lies, their manipulations. Could be a black male Democrat, white female Democrat, Asian female Democrat, ex-military male Democrat, Jesus Christ Democrat; you name it, they'll vilify it. Honestly, is there a single Democrat that you've noticed that they treat with dignity and respect? No, of course not.

(4,407 posts)don't necessarily "hate" her. I voted against her for political reasons that I believe were perfectly valid and have nothing to do with her celebrity, sex or other such criteria.
Yes, I voted for Hillary in the G.E., I'm not crazy. But no, I am not particularly a Clinton (both) fan. But if you assume my primary vote was motivated some irrational hate or bigotry, then you are simply being intolerant.
Why do people have to talk in such absolutes? Some of us don't hate her but do want to move on, including by learning lessons from a disastrous election. It sounds to me like there are a lot of attempts to shout others down. I don't flame, but I do have a right to express my opinion. I think the casting of people in absolutes tends to only drive divisions deeper.
