Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), whose questioning of Attorney General Jeff Sessions in his January confirmation hearing kicked off a chain of events that ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel, on Thursday had some more pointed questions for Sessions.
Franken included his questions in a scathing letter to Sessions after court documents unsealed Monday revealed that President Donald Trumps former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos in March 2016 floated the idea of setting up a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to several reports, Sessions was present at the meeting when Papadopoulos made the suggestion, though Sessions previously denied being aware of any communications between members of Trumps campaign and the Russian government. Papadopoulos claimed he had connections that could help arrange the meeting between Trump and Putin.
Once again, developments in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election have brought to light evidence that you failed to tell the truth about your interactions with Russian operatives during the campaign, as well as your awareness of Russian contacts by other members of the Trump campaign team, Franken wrote.

(15,543 posts)deep in republican-russian doo doo. Free clue for republicans: lying is wrong.
Further, lying to Congress is a serious violation of the law, perjury. d'oh. How can any other citizen respect the nation's laws when the #1 Law official is a small-minded, low-ethics, squirely republican operative who pisses on the law himself and tells treasonous lies?

(7,195 posts)One of my personal complaints about Democrats. You have to be far more blunt than that. He "failed to tell the truth"? Who cares about a "failure"? Failures are human.
Better:
"Once again, developments in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election have brought to light evidence that you LIED, you committed CRIMINAL PERJURY before the Senate about your interactions with Russian operatives during the campaign..."
A Rethuglican wouldn't hesitate for a nanosecond to say that if the roles were reversed.

(16,917 posts)Bill Clinton was impeached, NOT for having some "late office mischief, but, rather, NOT TELLING THE TRUTH UNDER OATH!"
One round of questions was whether the person was "fooling around with a woman," and the other was whether "the campaign working to conspire with an avowed enemy foreign government."
Is it possible to decide which round of questions was a "clear and present danger" to the United States?
