Interim AG vs. Acting AG.

Say Sessions either gets kicked to the curb by the Madman or calls it quits and scampers back to his cookie tree.

At that point, I would believe the job would immediately kick to the deputy AG next in line, Ron Rosenstein, who's currently overseeing the Mueller investigation due to Session's recusal.

To date, Rosenstein has resisted conservative calls to fire Mueller. That's a very good, if still precarious, position to take.

Of course, Trump would nominate a new candidate for attorney general who would have to be confirmed by the Senate.

In the meantime, however, while Rosenstein would be considered the Acting Attorney General immediately upon Sessions leaving the job, would Trump in any way be allowed to appoint a different Interim Attorney General pending confirmation of the permanent Attorney General? One that would be more than willing to axe Mueller?

Or is Interim and Acting all one in the same and Trump would have no say as to who holds the position until the new attorney general is confirmed (unless Trump decides to axe everyone down the line of succession until he finds a sycophant)?
