Republicans just introduced a resolution to remove Mueller from the Trump-Russia investigation

You knew this was coming.

WASHINGTON — A group of conservative Republican lawmakers introduced a resolution on Friday calling for Robert Mueller to recuse himself as the special counsel investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 US election and whether President Donald Trump's campaign team colluded with Moscow.

Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Louie Gohmert of Texas say Mueller should step down because he was the FBI director in 2010 when US government agencies approved the sale of Uranium One, a Canadian energy company, to a Russian nuclear-energy firm. The deal required approval because Uranium One had mining operations in the US.

Gaetz says the issue is that Mueller's FBI had found evidence of criminal activity that may have been relevant to the deal but did not bring any charges, and that Mueller therefore should recuse himself from the current investigation.

"These deeply troubling events took place when Mr. Mueller was the Director of the FBI. As such, his impartiality is hopelessly compromised," Gaetz said in a statement. "He must step down immediately."

Many of Gaetz's Republican colleagues, however, have previously expressed support for Mueller and his investigation. Senate Republicans have even introduced bills to create a barrier between Trump and Mueller in the event the president attempts to fire him.

But it's probably already serious that a President is going in this direction, and highly dangerous.

But it is do-or-die time for them. They’re finally going to have to line up behind their uncommonly horrible, authoritarian, banana-republic “president,” or the country, which is in dire jeopardy.

Hoping that Republicans choose wisely is a lousy spot to be in, but here we (the citizens) are.

Rep. Biggs,

I am DEEPLY distressed, though not surprised, that you would be a co-sponsor of a resolution to remove Robert Mueller as Special Counsel from the Russia Investigation. Does it ever occur to you to put COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY? Donald Trump is UNFIT for the Office of President of the United States. You know this, I know this. And increasingly, information available indicates the Trump campaign colluded AND EVEN COOPERATED with Russia to influence our last Presidential election in Trump's favor.
Even if Robert Mueller were removed from the investigation, the information will come out. The truth will be revealed. And you and every other Rethuglican in Congress that gives the Traitor Trump cover and seeks to obscure and obfuscate will be identified as such. Do you know the term for someone who gives aid and protection to a traitor? Traitor.

Regards,
Raster.

Hi all. New to the DU. Does anyone know what would happen to investigation if Mueller is forced to resign from investigation?

I assume there is a back-up plan and that someone else would take over.

Any thoughts?

The republicans are in panic mode over the upcoming election cycle. Desperation is the motivation behind the outright foolishness .Like Trump or even more than Trump ,they want it to stop. And there is plenty of denial in the mix as well. It is not going to be stopped.
And the price for having been do nothing obstructionist must be paid in full.
