(18,610 posts)I heard that Manafort and Flynn don't have any new information that Mueller wants so no plea deal is possible for them. They are going down for holding out.

(4,533 posts)Trump voters would applaud Russia interfering to defeat Hillary.
Trump wants Muslims and other minorities to go to hell. That is why so many white people voted for Trump. What was his campaign? Build the wall, stop the rapists and murderers from coming here. End of story.

(29,034 posts)Mueller's investigation isn't about "what Trump voters want".
If it finds Trump obstructed justice or committed other crimes, he's over. That's the end of the story.

(4,533 posts)There was evidence Clinton obstructed justice in the Monica Lewinsky case. That didnt cause me to stop supporting him. So too Trump supporters will not care if Mueller says Trump obstructed justice or colluded with Russia. And Trump will not be convicted. Just one pro trump juror needs to say not guilty.
Now maybe these problems will combine with others to cause fewer people in Pa, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida to vote Trump in 2020. That is the only thing that matters. Trump in jail or not only concerns one person. A Repub or Dem president concerns the lives of tens of millions.

(29,034 posts)It's about the force if LAW...If a president is found guilty of."high crimes and misdemeanors" he gets IMPEACHED and very likely convicted -- This is a matter concerning espionage and felonious acts -- It's on a completely different level, one FAR more serious than lying about an affair.

(4,533 posts)It is hardly clear that colluding with Russia is a crime. Some jurisprudes say yes, some say no. But if Trump goes to trial there is very likely going to be at least one Trump cultist on thjury who says not guilty. And the Republicans are no more likely to impeach Trump than they are to admit Global Warming is dangerous instead of a wonderful blessing.
So forget the rule of law being defended here. That aint gonna happen. But what can happen, with luck, is that we can return the federal govt to the hands of relative righteousness. And that should be our realistic goal and hope.

(29,034 posts)but please forgive me if I don't just take your word for it, lol I think
that if he did not, like Nixon, resign first, he would be convicted.
I was around for Watergate, so along with some other things, I think my political acumen may be a bit more "honed".than yours.
Have a nice day.

(4,533 posts)Republicans felt that supporting Nixon would hurt them. Republicans today know because of Jeff Flake and others that attacking Trump is political suicide. The politics today are completely different. And Republicans after Newt have become far more craven. Now being craven is the only way they can win elections.
And back then we had a shared reality. We had 3 networks and NPR telling us things, facts, which almost all of us agreed were true. Now when people are asked - who do you believe, Trump or your lying eyes - many pick Trump.
Its a different political world.

(56,828 posts)they supported him through the early stages of Watergate. The bigger difference now is that Republicans control the House and Senate. Back in 1973 and 1974, Democrats had bigger margins than Republicans do now.

(4,533 posts)All that matters is whether all this drives enough voters away from Trump so a Democrat becomes President.

(498 posts)I think Carter Page is CIA :>
He has way too much knowledge. Has led them directly to mass failure although they were all pushing there as hard as possible. He just spouts it off, no need for a lawyer.
If not CIA...
Well, there is just something very very wrong about him.
