Politico: Johnstown(PA) Never Believed Trump Would Help. They Still Love Him Anyway.

Trump Voters

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/08/donald-trump-johnstown-pennsylvania-supporters-215800

In a depressed former steel town, the president’s promises don’t matter as much as they once did.

Del Signore said he’s been following politics far more than before because of Trump. Trump, he said, is just “more interesting.” So now he likes watching the news. “Ninety-nine percent of the time I watch Fox,” he said. “Sometimes I’ll be sitting there listening to all this Fox stuff, and I’ll say, ‘Maybe they aren’t right, maybe I’ll flip to CNN’—but every time I’ve found that Fox has been correct, and CNN is definitely fake news.”

The NFL?

“Niggers for life,” Schilling said.

What I'm seeing here is nothing more then a bunch of delusional fools! Fools who are in dire need of mental health services, and intense counseling!

The people interviewed aren't deplorable, they're pathetic!!!

... into the White House "they" are OK w/ that because "they" like liberal tears and "they"
stopped Hillary's liberal agenda too.

I was in the western MD/WV/VA area late last winter and some of the poorest shacks in the
West Dog Patch towns had Rebel, NRA, and Trump flags/signs up in their yards. Their minds
have been poisoned by pastors, hate talk radio and internet, coal bosses, coal money, politicians,
and years and years of just plain old dumb fuck racist red neck talk.

8. As I wrote elsewhere about that article, Dems need to take it to heart.

We simply have to outnumber them (bearing in mind that Trump's approval rating among likely voters is higher than his approval rating among the general population), because we aren't going to convert them. Focus on turning out the base, raise hell about voter suppression, and do more to inspire young people to vote.

If it's a simplified message that people want, I suggest something like, "We stand for fairness, justice, compassion/empathy and sustainability." Those values pretty much cover every aspect of the party platform.

10. But we don't always outnumber them when it comes to turnout, especially in mid-terms.

Race-based voter suppression is a big problem, and voting machines may also be getting hacked. But plain ol' turnout has also been a problem.

11. Yes but much of the bullwork of the GOP's path to power has been targeted voter suppression, .....
Thu Nov 9, 2017, 12:51 PM

... gerrymandering, election rigging, racism, and sexism. 80,000 + voters in the Detroit/Flint
area showed up to vote last November and voted but skipped voting for President? South Carolina
is another case 35% of the state is African American and 10% is Hispanic which means that the
state should be trending blue because not all of the white voters in S.C. are right wing. I read something
like there were 50,000 server attacks were on and around election day in 2016.

The demographics are brutal for the GOP and they know it too so they are willing to do whatever
they have to .... including working with Russia ..... in order to keep power.

Turnout is very important but the republicans work very hard to keep that down too.

15. There may have been shenanigans, but every election there are folks who vote but not for POTUS.
Thu Nov 9, 2017, 02:55 PM
Nov 2017

And, in 2016, a lot of folks were not happy about their choices.

Photo ID laws, removing people from the voter rolls, and a lack of polling places in highly populated/urban areas are definitely real problems. And Democrats, as I've written numerous times, need to be raising holy hell about voter suppression. Every time they are on the air, and in the halls of Congress.

There's no doubt high turnout is good for Dems and bad for Republicans. Republicans have admitted so openly, such as Paul Weyrich back in 1980.

I just said that there are people in every election who vote without voting for president. If you were to look at 2012, 2008, 2004 and so on, you would find that there are a lot of people who don't vote for president but *do* vote on other candidates and measures. It's really not as uncommon as you might think.

12. "You've been duped"
Thu Nov 9, 2017, 12:58 PM
Nov 2017

Maybe I LIKE being duped! Ever think of that?

We need a different message for folks like Mr. Del Signore, one that points out the yawning chasm between what he thinks is true and what is actually true. Remind him of the promises that were made to him, and how those promises have been broken. Leave him with open-ended questions to ponder: Have the steel mills re-opened like Trump promised? Republicans are in total control of the government, so why do you think they haven't delivered on that promise?

If nothing else, you'll piss him off that he's still not doing any better even with his hero in the White House.
