Vietnam Anecdote - If You Golf In South Vietnam - STAY OUT OF THE ROUGH !!!!!!

When I was in Vietnam 50 years ago there was a possibly ghastly rumor going around about the golf course in Saigon that US officers would sometimes play using jeeps for carts. in 2008 at a health care rally a retired Army colonel actually verified the rumor because he experienced what the rumor had been.

As it turns out the old French build golf course was closed as the war progressed. This colonel was playing golf one day and he hit his ball into the rough. When he asked the Vietnamese caddy to help find the ball the caddy declined. So the colonel walked into the rough. He found his ball all right. But there was a catch. HE HAD AN UNPLAYABLE LIE BECAUSE NEXT TO HIS BALL WAS A HUGE COBRA. Now does he get a two club length drop? LOL.
