A Senior Female Moore Supporter stated this today to a MSNBC Reporter.
"Well even if he did molest her..I'm still gonna vote for Roy Moore, because I know Jesus forgave him and that means
I can forgive him"
You can bet she's not the only one who feels this way...
How does one reply to this...As an Atheist I certainly Can't reply to her statement..Because as far they are concerned I'm worse than the Devil..

(186 posts)Basically, they believe when someone becomes a Christian, Jesus forgives them for all their past sins and all their future sins. No matter what they do, they've already been forgiven for it.
There are thousands of denominations and millions of individual practitioners, all with their very own interpretations of the stories in the book. Someone can believe or disbelieve just about anything and still be one variety of Christian or another.

(4,490 posts)It's the victim whose forgivness he would have to seek. Other than this hypothetical God and the victim, anyone else is irrelevant to forgiveness.
Not to mention even if I forgive someone, I'm still not psychic. I don't truly know if someone is repentant and changed.

(115,681 posts)How one's religious affiliation evaluates one's personal sins is irrelevant to fitness for public office. If the people of Alabama choose to believe Jesus forgives child molestation (and my understanding of the whole concept of forgiveness is that the sinner has to admit the sin and genuinely repent, which Moore has not done), the fact remains that child molestation is both immoral and illegal. Does the presumed forgiveness on the part of Jesus mean that any act, however heinous and/or illegal, committed by a "believing Christian" elected official, must also be forgiven and tolerated by the electorate? Or does this principle apply only when the sinner is a Republican?

(21,740 posts)He can't be forgiven unti he confesses his sin.
So, if he confessed to God, he is now lying to the rest of us and that is a new sin.
Fuck him (last statement is optional)

(52,202 posts)the correct answer is, "for what?" to which you can say, "good point. isn't it better to act in a way that doesn't need to be forgiven in the first place?"
but more likely they'll come up with something that they can't really articulate like email somethinghazi gurglebleph.
well, did jesus forgive her? if not, why not? did they vote for her?
most likely they'll say that she's a liberal and that jesus can't forgive liberals until they renounce their liberality because jesus said though shalt not liberal. it's right there in the book of rush.
so she'll vote for a republican criminal because jesus forgives, but never vote for a liberal saint, because liberal is unforgivable.
at that point just say so clearly you don't care about jesus because you'll vote republican no matter what?

(14,167 posts)So how can G-d forgive him? How does this woman know Jesus forgave him? Based on what?
The answer is you can't fight it. They just come up with excuses to justify their unjust and immoral beliefs. They don't want to be educated. They like the swamp.

(10,721 posts)As others have suggested, we simply have to outnumber folks like that. And we have to raise holy hell about voter suppression.

(2,034 posts)Make it personal, make them really feel it when they want to condone his crimes. Without knowing their specific issues, the best approach is one from a place of compassion.

Interpretation: They have a blank check to do whatever they want.
I would ask, "Does the Jesus EVER not forgive?" "How do you know?"
