I have been keeping in touch with my cousin, a rabid Trump supporter, for the last several months. He is otherwise intelligent and reasonable, and I was hoping he'd see the error of his ways. Not so much. Now that he has lost his race for public office in New Jersey, he has come out full racist nazi.
I had hoped that the Roy Moore issue would cause him to reflect as he is very law and order minded, and allegedly an Uber patriot. Surely Moore's belief that the Bible outweighs the Constitution would offend him? Nope. Here's his latest:
"Man up and understand that there are millions of normal Americans who are tired of paying the freight for the illegals and freeloaders. We are not paying for their health care, gender changes, tens of millions of illegitimate babies, college tuitions, tattoos, cell phones, drugs, etc, etc,. We've had enough".
He just totally ignores everything terrible about any and all Republicans. I am starting to understand that he is racist to his core and there is no bottom below the scum.

I could make a career out of dissecting the psychopathy wrapped up in it... But, it all boils down to a hateful bigotry.
I'll only single out the "tired of paying for freeloaders" bit... So, he'd be okay if the Blue States stopped their massive subsidizing of his red havens? Because, they're the biggest freeloaders out there.

There may be other things about them that allowed friendship. I have a past (best) friend I lost who really saved my life and I will always be grateful for that but I can no longer be friends because of their thinking processes. I always sort of let what I didn't agree with slide in the past. That is what you do with friendships - there is a lot of compromise. My own mother is a Trump supporter. But in her case she is suffering from a bit of dementia and we just don't go there anymore. She spouts off the fox talking points. If I say anything political .. anything that she does not agree with she now says "Where did you get that from?" If I cite any sources she will claim they are all fake. Doesn't matter if it is the dictionary. I just don't go there anymore because it would fuel her distrust. It saddens me greatly because there is no way to get through this armor once you are viewed by another person as stating something they believe with a lot of emotion is false. At the same time, for adults that are not medically challenged I have decided that if their beliefs are not a world view I choose to accept or be complicit in, I am just not going to add myself to their reality. I am trying to understand the fact of how some human beings can justify their own or others acts of atrocity, and how some can be complicit and supporting of such acts. I really DO NOT understand it and maybe never will. These people have their own little hell they live in. I am so grateful that I am not there.

(5,191 posts)The true believers can't disprove the stories, so now they just deny any and all allegations. They cry fake news and ignore truths. So sad to see people I used to respect now blinded by hatred.
