Oh, so many parallels could be made between the two... Just kidding (Well, to a certain degree)
But, regarding the kids, we tried to keep the mystery going. They even wanted to believe it, even when faced with a Santa that would suddenly appear at the same time their grandfather disappeared, and Santa's voice sounded just like his. Heck, he even smelled like their grandfather's cigars too.
They knew, but they liked the fantasy and mystique of Santa.
I remember my childhood, hoping for Santa to come down the chimney, while it was my parents who set up the gifts. I took a few peeks before getting told to go back to bed. Then, my older brother kept telling me he was fake. I knew he wasn't real, but I hoped he was.

(4,429 posts)but then she met him in person, and the truth is.......she LOVED the myth. I felt, at the time, (and even now - she's a teenager), that I was following her and her energy.
She loved all of them (Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy). It was just her nature.
