Republican Strategist: Donald Trump Has Made the Democratic Party Great Again

Last Tuesday, Democratic candidates had a good Election Day as they won two governors’ races, a number of mayoral races and had sweeping victories in state legislatures. In the Virginia governor race, Democrat Ralph Northam pulled out a 9-point victory over Republican Ed Gillespie even though recent polls showed the race tightening following Gillespie’s embrace of cultural issues dear to Donald Trump’s base.

During a panel discussion on ABC’s This Week, Republican strategist Alex Castellanos stated that these election victories for Democrats were related to Trump and the president will likely continue to have an impact on the GOP in upcoming elections.


“Donald Trump has made the Democratic Party great again,” Castellanos said. “He’s unified it and given it intensity at the polls.”

The GOP operative went on to state that we saw the same thing happen for the Republican Party following Barack Obama’s election as Republicans were able to win races due to opposition to Obama. He would then point out how Gillespie appealing to Trump voters didn’t help because he lost women in the suburbs and there was a “feminist surge.”

“If you look ahead at 2018 in those Republican districts that Hillary Clinton won — 23 of them — the House is in play,” Castellanos concluded.

At least one GOP official has blamed his election loss on the president, saying it was the “Trump effect.”

What if Hillary would have won.......how would Tuesday have happened??? How could have so many women taken out election papers to run in their hometown City, County and State offices??? It's only been a year since the orange tRump won, and it's only a few Red areas that have turned back to Blue or purple areas are now Blue.....that this might be a turning point. IS IT TO EARLY TO *gulp* thank him?? OK, OK, OK, big mistake to say thank you to him. But, how else has the "base" become alive. just saying.
