I moved to the Bay Area to get away from Neanderthals like the vulgar assailant. But they're everywhere and emboldened by you-know-who.

My family was dazzled by the futuristic-looking BART in the early 80s, but it has become a nightmare over the decades.

Oddest thing. Guy went off on me because, in conversation with a friend, I mentioned I'd been in the military. Suddenly, a voice behind me started calling me a vicious string of insults and demanded the opportunity to kick my ass.

He never touched me but he raised his hands at me many times.

Like the younger guy in the video, whom I suspect was worried the old fart might have a gun (as I did 40 years ago), I kept my cool and tried to calm the maniac. Fortunately, no one had to intercede.

Never did learn why he hated military so -- it was a strange time in those years, much as it is today.

After a tense standoff, the aggressor moved away with his friend. That was America in the late '70s. Jimmy Carter was President.

He remained calm and handled it well. I wish that I would be able to remain as focused and calm in such situations.

The thing about situations like this, and it happens all the time...you take a swing at the person who is doing the assaulting, you don't connect hard enough to put him down, then he takes a gun out of his jacket and shoots you. Better to de-escalate the situation and live another day, because you really never know.
