Its good advice in many situations. But as things stand now, the Republicans no longer have to hide their flop-sweat its aroma is detectable from one end of the country to the other.
While I still maintain that Republican voters are dumb-as-shit, the powers-that-be in the party are not quite as stupid as their easily-led constituents.
Those PTB know how much shit theyre in. They read the poll numbers, they read the newspapers, they see the headlines and any lingering hopes they may have had that things will turn around for them were crushed by the recent election results.
They know that Trump is going down. The evidence against him and his cohorts is now overwhelming, and is being added to on a daily basis. They know there will be no finding of innocence, that Mueller is not going to complete his investigation and say, Well, I searched and I searched, but I couldnt find any wrongdoing here. And despite their theres no there there assurances to their base, they know whats coming down the pike. Even the usual GOP spokes-mouths on the news/political shows are phoning it in these days, and its obvious even they no longer believe their own schtick.
The irony here is that despite the political savvy of the PTB in the Republican hierarchy, whats bringing them down is not their lack of intelligence, but their incredible lack of common sense.
Had Jeff Sessions simply answered the question of whether he had any contact with Russians during the campaign, he could have responded that as a senator, he probably did have such contacts. In reply to the obvious follow-up question about whether hed discussed the campaign with said Russians, he could have said he didnt and unless there were witnesses to the contrary, that would have been the end of it. Instead, he lied and bought himself a world of hurt when his lies were proven to be just that.
Had Jared Kushner provided a list of the meetings hed had with Russians instead of omitting them from his security clearance documents, he wouldnt have so brazenly (and stupidly) invited the intense scrutiny that lying about those meetings inevitably resulted in. The same is true of Donny Junior, who could have come up with a more plausible story about what he discussed at the now-infamous Trump Tower meeting than the ludicrous tale that it was all about adoptions.
Like Trump himself, Sessions, Kushner and Don Junior (among others) lied about things that were easily disproven dumb, dumber, dumbest. The smart man admits to what may look hinky, and then comes up with credible reasons why what he said or did was not as untoward as they might appear at first blush.
Make no mistake, my friends the Republicans at the top know theyre in deep shit. They know that the lies have been proven to be lies. They know that the evidence against Trump & Co is accumulating at a pace that cant be dismissed as mere political payback on the part of Democrats. They know that the noose is being tightened around the necks of Trump, his family members, and his advisors. They know.
And now is the time of the great unravelling, the point where Republicans distancing themselves from the Trump administration is now underway and the Roy Moore campaign is the canary in that particular coalmine. Had the Trumpsters prevailed in the recent elections, the GOP would have stood firmly behind Moore and his campaign. But in view of how things are playing out, now is the time for all good Republicans to be made to understand that betting on a pedophile horse is not the way to win the hearts-and-minds of voters who are already uneasy about their partys chances in 2018 and beyond.
As they say, Its not over until the fat lady sings and that fat lady has been singing at the top her lungs since Trump was declared pResident. Putting their fingers in their ears and yelling la, la, la, I cant hear you is simply no longer an option for the GOP.
As some GOP spokes-whore said recently on CNN, The average voter isnt interested in the Russia collusion story. And as a Democrat (forgive me for not remembering who it was) immediately countered with: There was a time that no one was interested in Watergate until there came a time when everyone was interested in Watergate.
The Republicans are on the ropes and their cries that they are still poised to win this fight are sounding more ludicrous by the day. They are scared shitless and the stench of their verbal diarrhea, coupled with the smell of flop-sweat, is now just too overwhelming to be ignored.

(27,813 posts)I have deleted all of our PMs where we discussed how you would "REC" my OPs in exchange for financial compensation and/or sexual favours.
Given my age, I'd go with "financial compensation" over "sexual favours" if I were you. The cheque is in the mail - along with the cheque from the Mexican government to pay for the Border Wall.

(46,166 posts)His edgy self righteousness just didn't have the old confidence he once may have had. Credibility lives only in Trump's imagination. Up and down the Party all they have is bluster a la Roy Moore.

(1,134 posts)... but it is hard to argue against ignorance pleas from this band of Keystone Cops, particularly, Trump, his son, and son-in-law. Thankfully, the law is blind to such, and hopefully all will be soon wearing prison jumpsuits. Since Kushner's Dad previously served prison time, a nice touch would be to locate his old jumpsuit for Jared!

It won't be long now, but the GOP is still the party of billionaires, still trying to screw America.

(12,482 posts)are catching up to them. At some point the lying backfires, and it's never pretty. They're trying to invoke Clinton's indiscretions as a distraction. It's time for Democrats in Congress to put heels on their necks and rotate.
Liars depend on the honesty of others. They get caught eventually because they agree to lies presented to them by their interrogators.
How about exposing Roger Stone to extraordinary rendition .
