https://www.rawstory.com/2017/11/hillary-clinton-defends-al-franken-after-assault-accusation/I n an interview with Rita Cosby on WABC radio on Friday, the former secretary of state said that party colleague Franken, who was accused this week of groping a female broadcaster in 2006, acted responsibly by apologizing and requesting the Senate ethics panel investigate his conduct.
"I deeply regret what he did," Clinton said. "There's no excuse for his behavior. But he's called for an investigation. He's apologized to the woman involved." She went on to say that is "the kind of accountability Im talking about. I don't hear that from Roy Moore or Donald Trump.

To the many people who have asked me about him: I say his behavior was inappropriate and he should apologize. They are left sputtering, saying he had already apologized. Nothing further is or needs to be said

(7,228 posts)Al Franken has shown accountability and apoligized, though for any politician - DEM or REP, where do we say it's too much? Where is that line?
My sense is one mistake in the past is a teachable moment, but a "pattern" of sexual harassment with multiple reports is inexcusable.
The Orange monster and flatearther Moore have not the courage to own ANY responsibility!

Instead they make wild conspiracy claims and threaten to sue their victims. This differences cannot be emphasized strongly or often enough.
Thank you, Hillary.

(4,756 posts)that didn't "jump off a bridge" in response to the Al Franken situation. I will admit that it took her a little longer to respond but maybe all the Democrats should have thought this through and at least given it a little time before becoming all twisted in a pretzel.

(14,165 posts)I'm sick of our side having to grovel and assume not only the very worst in ourselves but the worst possible interpretations from others. To make double sure that EVEN IF its blown way out of proportion to this degree we still have make sure we say things like "deeply regret" and "no excuse".
I'd rather every Democrat stood up to the mic and stated that this is ridiculous. That he was a comedian hamming it up for the camera in a room full of people, and that he denies the aggressive rehearsal kiss before a show. And that this is an obvioius attempt by Republicans to deflect Ray Moore's pedophiliac sexual assault, ....and oh...what about those accusations against Donald Trump?
But they can'd do that. Only Republicans are allowed to that. So what that means is Franken will forever be lumped in with other actual serious sexual predators. I mean he admitted it right?
Its so f'd up.

(5,210 posts)That WAS an offensive photo, even IF it was supposed to be a "joke."
Here's another tip for you: rape jokes aren't funny either, just in case you're not aware of that as well.

(14,165 posts)Your post is a prime example of the fringe PC police our side has to deal with and they don't. They know that well and take advantage it to pit us against each other.

(5,210 posts)the lengths males (and too many females, sadly) will go to in the service of resisting simple equality for women -- in this case, an ABSENCE of oppression in all its sexual forms.
Conflate means to "combine (two or more texts, ideas, etc.) into one."
So, yes and no. These two acts are different by quite a lot, and yet, and yet -- they are mainly different by degree, and are both part of our rape culture. (Heh, that very term all by itself will send you right through the roof, I suspect.)
As I see it, this discussion only "pits us against each other" to the degree you want to kick up a fuss about it and make yourself separate. As well as on the wrong side of history, and all that.
Edited to add the main thing: how disappointing (though revealing) to see someone on "our" side who doesn't get it -- well, refuses to get it -- that the photo is damned OFFENSIVE.
LiberalLovinLug
(14,165 posts)and.....?
I'm hardly the one kicking up a fuss.
so is this photo "offensive" or a certain degree of oppression?:

(5,210 posts)It's yet another way to try to try to defend Franken by tearing her down, and that's just wrong. That's exactly why women don't come forward -- which is not to say ANYTHING about this particular woman's veracity or behavior, tho I would l like to point out no one knows if that was part of the skit or not.
I'm nauseated by what I see here. It's NOT helping Franken at all to go after his accuser in this way.
