Girl power

One of the fun things I do is to play piano for ballet classes. The school I work at is remarkable in that all of the dance classes have a live pianist, in the classical tradition. The dancers range in age from 3 to 80 years old depending on the class.

This morning, I played for a Primary class with dancers who were 6 to 7 years old. There are about a dozen dancers including one boy who has some talent but he's disruptive. In one exercise, the dancers line up on opposite sides of the studio and traverse the room diagonally. As they were lining up, the boy tried to shove in front of a few girls. One of the girls, who was a good 6 inches shorter than the boy, got right in his face and without saying a word, faced him down with a withering scowl. He slunk to the back of the line.

Girl power is awesome. Plus, the teachers and I had a great laugh!
