Killen Mayor Tim Tubbs announced Monday the city's chief of police, Bryan Hammond, will be suspended 15 days without pay after he made Facebook comments discussing allegations surrounding Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore.

Hammond released a statement Monday which said he used the phrase "silence is consent" when discussing political opponents who ignored accusations on the social media platform, but he said people misunderstood his comment. Some say the comment was an attempt to make a joke at the expense of sexual assault victims.

Hammond also apologized if he offended anyone with his comments.

The post with the comments has since been deleted.

3. That seems to be an appropriate response to his stupid statement.

"Yes" is consent. "Of course you can" is consent. "That's what I want, too" is consent. Initiating some sexual activity can be consent. Silence is not consent. Silence is just silence. It says nothing.
