Corker wants deal on tax plan before key committee vote

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said on Tuesday that he wants to get a deal to include a backstop to help offset potential future deficits in the Senate GOP tax plan before a committee vote.

"We're working on that right now. ...We do need to have this trigger worked out before the budget vote today," Corker told Fox News, asked if he thought the tax bill would be able to pass the Budget Committee and ultimately the entire Senate.

Corker noted that he's working "feverishly" to get an agreement. He met with Senate GOP leadership in Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office on Tuesday, and said he also expects to get a proposal from the White House.

President Trump is expected to discuss tax reform with Senate Republicans during their weekly caucus lunch on Tuesday.

And Budget Committee is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday to merge the tax plan with a bill from Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) that would allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). ..................

we had to type on a type writer a letter to the President. I wrote Ronald Reagan a letter asking not to allow drilling in ANWR. EPA administrator Scott Pruitt was in my typing class. Reagan didn't write me back. I'm leaving work and going out for a hike.
