What Happened To New Years Day Programming

When I looked at my local TV schedule today there some glaring absences on the schedule. There was no Rose Parade anywhere on the schedule including cable from what I could tell. There were no college bowl games because the NFL is playing their last season game.

For as long as I have been around there had been coverage of the Orange Bowl Parade, the Rose Parade, the Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. All we seem to have are those two Idiots Gregory and Schafer and the Reubliclown coverage.

Am I missing something or is it just me.

Also I heard that the Rose Parade committee said it would allow the OWS people follow the end of the Rose Parade today with their protest. I wonder if that had anything to do with all the media being absent at the Rose Parade this year.

Any comments?

We need to occupy the media and just take over the studios or something. They are just so corrupt now. OWS should be out demonstrating in front of the media outlets and force them to cover the real news.

...the husband said the Rose Parade will be tomorrow. Doesn't make any sense and I haven't checked because I never watch it.

And, yes, the programming sucks today. I'll probably watch movies all day.

Parades and all. And all the games normally played on New Year's Day are being played Monday, which is the official holiday day that (almost) everyone gets off.

Tomorrow is a holiday for lots of people. I don't remember this ever happening either, but it's possible I just wasn't paying attention on previous years when NYD fell on Sunday.

practice goes way back and the original rationale was that the parade would be too disruptive for residents of Pasadena who wanted to attend church on Sunday - at least that was the excuse I always heard.

The Tournament of Roses has long had a "Never on a Sunday" tradition:

This year, the Rose Parade (which is often referred to as the "Rose Bowl Parade&quot and Rose Bowl Game will take place on Monday, January 2 according to the Tournament of Roses’ “Never on a Sunday” tradition. In 1893, officials decided it would be best to avoid interfering with Sunday worship services and decided to move events to January 2nd whenever January 1st fell on a Sunday. The last time the “Never on a Sunday” policy was in effect was in 2006.

I had to look it up. When New Years falls on Sunday, they always have the parade and game on Monday. The games are moved so there will be no competition with pro games. The parade has been traditionally moved. It has never been shown on Sunday.

Thanks. I do not have cable and my TV guide in Colorado does not list weekday mornings. Unless you have cable which is a ripoff anymore you don't get advanced listings. I forgot about that rule. Since I am retired everyday is a holiday. I would have been off tomorrow if I was still at DOL. LOL.

I quit cable for several reasons years ago. You had to pay for and rent all these boxes. They restricted usage for recording devices. Also almost all cable channels have more than 30% commercials. They also do not put in a lot of new programming and some channels play the same thing 10 or 15 times a day. Now I hear they want a huge rise in rates. And I could go on.

The public is allowing itself to be exploited. There should be al a carte. Plus there is no service that will allow you to totally eliminate Fox where they do not even get a penny of your money. . You can have it blocked but they are still getting some of your money.

Anyway glad to hear. I guess I jumped the gun on this one.

Thanks all for the info. I guess I am getting too cynical anymore.
