Kushner real estate firm seeks to protect investors' names in lawsuit

BALTIMORE —

The real estate firm owned by Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, is asking a federal judge to protect the names of investors as the firm tries to fend off a lawsuit filed by Baltimore-area tenants.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in September. (Read the lawsuit here) Kushner's companies own thousands of apartments in the Baltimore region.

The suit claims tenants are charged excessive fees. It also claims the fees pile up in ways that make it hard for tenants to catch up.

Kushner's firms are fighting the lawsuit and recently asked a federal judge for an order that keeps the names of the company's investors confidential.

"The identity of defendants' private investors-members has no bearing on the merits of the complaint in this case," lawyers wrote in a court filing.
