What. A. Mess.

This is what happens when a petulant spoiled uncontrollable child walks into a room and ruins everything just because they want to get attention and break things.

Health care - taxes - war - the environment - infrastructure - regulations - not to mention the endless lies and hypocrisy.

Destruction...just because he can. That is all that he is about.

And still - I tune into shows on NPR or read reports here from TV news and reporters or politicians express surprise that this is happening.

It has been the same since the campaign. the asshole is the asshole. nothing will change.

the real tragedy are all of his enablers - his sycophants, his party members - he - they - are taking all of us down with them.

He hates us, because we don’t love him.

Screw the sycophants. They love him so much.

I tuned out during the Reagan years, stayed tuned in during Bush the Younger because I was so angry. Now I mostly feel despair.

And you are right. The real tragedy is the people who voted for him. And voted for his enablers. What happened to courage?

My biggest hope is that America will be so outraged at the tax "reform" bill that we kick the lot of them out. Will we then be able to trash this bill and pass tax reform that doesn't rob the poor to enrich the rich?

You are meant to feel powerless and despairing. You are meant to feel like the system is broken and will never work properly again. You are being manipulated to want to tune out and just throw up your hands at the endless stream of bullshit.

Unplug for a few days if you need to. Nobody is supposed to be on the front lines at all times. Catch your breath. Re-charge your batteries. Then get back here. We all need each other.

I think maybe I need to spend the weekend just watching old movies. I am getting too depressed. I have given up hope that I am going to wake up one day and hear good news for our side. It's just too much of a shit-show and it shows no sign of slowing down, let alone stopping.

This is not just about Trump anymore.

It's about a rogue political party that is subverting democracy itself; an institution that is bought and paid for to serve the interests not of the people, but of corporate and wealthy interests which have become the "deep state" within the political system itself. Not only is the Republican party corrupt, it has become dangerous and destabilizing and goes so far as to close their eyes to a madman in power who flirts with nuclear war. All of this is just the "cost" of doing business in their eyes. They can not claim ignorance. They know. They know how destructive the tax plan is and they know the lies that are being used to sell it and in the end they don't even care who buys it. They are doing it. They are doing it because that's what their masters want them to do.

This is the greed of Wall Street that led to a near depression on a grand scale.

They do not care. These despicable human beings do not care about their children and grandchildren and certainly not about any future generations. They do not care.

They are rigging the courts with lifetime appointments every day, creating a judiciary that will last far beyond the time that any of them are kicked out of office. This will allow them to control elections as well because if you are protected from the people then you truly only need fear your masters. Democracy is dead.

This is where we are.

And perhaps just as bad, and the most disappointing thing of all, are the Americans who support them, who cheer on the disaster and destruction--the same Americans who will offer thoughts and prayers when the nuclear bombs start dropping while waving the flag and screaming "America First!" These are the Americans who will blame Democrats when their social security and medicare are cut to pay the bill for the tax cuts. They will blame Obama. They are detached from reality and live in a Fox News bubble where no critical thinking is required.

This is where we are.

Ignorance is celebrated. Lies are truth.

This is our country.

I weep for my own children who must face this future. I'm older now--and yes, I'll face the dismal future as well but I had the luxury of living in a time of hope. What hope will they or their children have as we go forward?

It's a sad time. It's a frightening time.

It's a hopeless time.

So I do withdraw from the media more than I used to. I read novels. Watch old movies. Involve myself in hobbies. Try to ignore it.

It is wearing me down. I have no energy to scream into the internet or write useless letters to congress and hope they will listen.

On here--yes--it's preaching to the choir. On Facebook? It depends. Some preaching to the choir there, some blank apathy, and some opposition with their own alternative facts.

I will always vote. I will donate to good candidates.

But talking to others or our elected officials(I'm in a gerrymandered district)feels hopeless and a waste of time.

We need others to rise. We need people who never voted to care. We need to overwhelm the other side with numbers even in gerrymandered districts. That's a long battle.

I hope there is time. I hope in my lifetime I see the return of sanity to this nation.
