Texas Frat Boy's New Year's Resolution? Murder Obama!
byBill SchmalfeldtFollow
Meet Taylor Ross Huffman. He was the Sophomore of the year for 2010 at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, Home of the Fighting "Texans." (The ladies' sports teams are called the TexAnn's. How quaint.) Taylor seems from all appearances like a normal southern frat boy. He likes beer, hot chicks, fishin' and huntin'. And on December 30, 2011, he posted his New Year's Resolution on Twitter for the whole world to see.

(8,339 posts)Why do these assholes think they have the right to say anything they want?
I just wish there was a hell so they could burn in it.

Who do those idiots think they are? And why isn't the Secret Service doing anything?

(67,032 posts)was DHS issued a report on far RW groups that they probably just keep it on the quiet anymore. I'm always concerned about Internet surveillance, but damn, when you read stuff like this I can see why certain agencies monitor the Internet. I don't know if we have more nuts anymore, or if the Internet just gives them more visibility.

(175,698 posts)No matter what you think, it is a threat that should be -- and is -- taken seriously.

(29,658 posts)are certain things you just don't joke about, or at least put in print. One would be the assassination of an elected official.
If he had no idea that this wasn't exactly the brightest thing in the world to do he shouldn't be in college. I'm sure there are plenty of others who would like to have his spot.
You can agree with an official, you can disagree with them. That's fine. You can threaten their livelihood by stating that you will actively campaign against them in the next election cycle. If there is a recall option available you can become part of that. What you cannot do is threaten their life. It's just idiotic.
And all threats have to be assessed. It doesn't matter if it doesn't seem credible. No stone can be left unturned if a threat of that level has been made.
So, what would have been better? He should have said something like "Dude's an asshole. No way do I want him to be reelected. I'm gonna campaign for (insert candidate here)." That would have been appropriate and would have been applaudable.

(8,492 posts)But, you're correct. There are more civilized ways to voice discontent. But, if you're trying to look cool to your neanderthal drinking buddies and the easily bedded bimbos, he was spot on.
Though I'm not a conservative I can give credit if the argument is a good one. If you are that impassioned that you are willing to give up your time in order to volunteer for what you believe in then good on ya!
I just don't approve of what has happened to us. I hate the threats, the yelling, the screaming, the divides in our society. When did it become so wrong to discuss politics in a rational, engaging manner? When did it become so awful to "agree to disagree" with someone and then find something else to discuss?
Threats of this nature have me scratching my head. I just don't understand.

(8,492 posts)Or, future employers. Gotta admit, his FB page gave me a chuckle. I bet the empty headed bimbos love him! Hell, who wouldn't love a guy that had Nugent, Reagan, John Wayne and Shrub as people that inspire them! Oh, and one of his goals in life is to be "dead sexy". He's a little dweeb with an inferiority complex. Not good traits for being "dead sexy".
Oh, and welcome to DU.
