Former CBS News correspondent Eric Engberg followed his blistering Facebook post on Saturday about Bill O'Reilly with an appearance Sunday on CNN's "Reliable Sources.".
O'Reilly came under fire Thursday in a story in "Mother Jones" that claimed he exaggerated his wartime reporting in the Falklands much like suspended NBC anchorman Brian Williams had with his work in Iraq.
On Sunday, O'Reilly and Engberg squared off on dueling 11 a.m. media shows. Here is a story of O'Reilly blasting Engberg on Fox News' "Media Buzz."
And here's the transcript below of Engberg challenging O'Reilly on CNN. (link for entire transcript)

key passage about everyone staying in the hotel as Reilly said
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"What he just said was a fabrication, a lie. There were five CBS correspondents, including him, assigned to the bureau. They were under the direction of Larry Doyle, one of our very first field producers. You marines out there will understand what I was saying. He was a lurp in the marines in Vietnam before he went to CBS. He's a very skilled operator in combat and dangerous situations.
He sent all five of the correspondents and all 10 or 12 of the camera crew members out into the street. Nobody stayed in their hotel room because they were afraid."

(21,925 posts)not because I want him fired, but because I find his angry outbreaks divinely comedic. That "let's do it live" is comedic gold. I hope he sticks around to entertain us for years to come. Billo The Clown I believe is what Olbermann used to call him.

(17,096 posts)It cuts off right at the good part.
That said- Eric Engberg comes off as truthful, reliable, and professional. Almost as good as having Walter Cronkite castigate Bill O'Reilly.

(1,397 posts)Just before 0830, Monday, 23 FEb, on CNN. Chris Cuomo was interviewing ?????, who reports on media matters.
After discussing O'Lielly's obvious bullshit, Cuomo asked his guest: "Given the audience that Fox cultivates, will it make any difference if O'Reilly is lying?"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To which the guest replied: "Probably not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
