Fort Knox drops Ted Nugent from concert plans
Source: The News Enterprise
Following rocker Ted Nugent's recent comments about President Barack Obama, he has been dropped from a scheduled performance at Fort Knox, the post announced Thursday afternoon.
Nugent set off a controversy at last weekend's National Rifle Association convention when he criticized high-ranking members of Obama's administration and offered support for possible Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
In a video posted on YouTube by the NRA, Nugent said, "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."
...
Army Entertainment and the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation are committed to carrying out the concert, according to a news release. REO Speedwagon and Styx remain scheduled to perform as part of the post's annual summer concert June 23. The possibility exists that a replacement will be selected, post officials said.

I should point out that I have Ted Nugent on open reel tape, but I don't have any of his albums on eight-track or that new format that all the kids are talking about, cassette.

Being a child of the 70's... I'm still going "Ewwwww".
But I feel the need to mention that my niece listens to 60's & 70's stuff all the time. She was listening to James Taylor's Sweet Baby James and I said "Geez, your mother had that album in Jr High!" and my niece replied "Well, modern music sux." She likes people who can sing, not rap, and can hit notes without being autotuned. She also likes string sections and horn sections that are actually strings and horns. I told her to also try jazz.
Webster Green
(13,905 posts)Nice line-up! LOL!
Tell your daughter to check out Arcade Fire. Currently the best band on the planet. The strings are amazing. Sometimes they bring horns too.

That's the New Chritie's Minstrels. The original made no recordings.

(17,505 posts)I checked them out. Not bad. A little pessimistic, but, y'know...youthful angst. Some very interesting soundscapes.
While we're recommending music....
I find I like a couple of bands that are clearly retro 60's 70's in sound:
Tame Impala
The Black Angels
And Bear in Heaven. They're hard to classify. Solid walls of electric sound, but subtle in developing the music. Yes... development of the music! In Rock!
And I'm obviously moving toward blues and jazz these days.
And of course I need a daily dose of Bach, Handel, Mozart and Stravinsky. Everyone should listen to some classical music at least weekly. There's got to be something you like. You've got 4 centuries to choose from. And it enhances the rock/ blues/ dance/ rap/ whatever else you listen to. No really!
And don't be scared of high brow singing! You'll miss so much!
There. AlbertCat's musical advice....
ENJOY! Music is so awesome....

Dem says what's going on in Gitmo is similar to what you might have heard in Europe in the 1930s ... he's accused of calling our troops Nazis, despite the fact that he did no such thing. Had to apologize for something he DIDN'T say, or face a real nasty "liberally-biased media".
Ted the Ped Nugent not only calls Obama, Hillary, others criminals and other things, he actually states that they, the pro-death penalty, pro-gun, pro-nuke-em-all-and-let-God-sort-them-out-while-we-take-"OUR"-oil NRA sycophant crowd, should go to DC and chop off "their" heads ... he gets off by saying "Well, intelligent people would understand what a metaphor is". (Maybe, instead of bibles, RWers should hand out dictionaries, along with directions to the nearest adult literacy center)
This should be the first in a long line of actions for speaking your mind.
Maybe the reason why Ted The Ped would be "dead or in jail by this time next year" is because he is going back on drugs ...

(634 posts)This should scare the crap outta all of us; All too often we believe that most others feel as we do. The truth is that there are a lot of people like Ted out there. They have been duped into thinking that the republican party is on their side. I think not.
Once the republicans have turned America into a third world country with their economic policies ( designed to accommodate corporate america ), the Wealthy ( the owners of the GOP) are not gonna want a bunch of poor people running around with guns. The GOP WILL sell out gun owners sooner or later. And when they do, they will blame the Dems.
