Mexico's Senate passes climate change bill
by Staff Writers
Mexico City (AFP) April 20, 2012

Mexico's Senate has unanimously passed a climate change bill aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050, following Britain in creating legally binding emissions goals.

The law -- approved late Thursday and which still needs to be signed by President Felipe Calderon -- seeks to promote policies and incentives to reduce carbon emissions, decrease the use of fossil fuels and make renewable power more competitive.

It will set up a National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change to coordinate efforts from various ministries as well as a fund for efforts at tackling climate change.

In 2009, the United States attempted, unsuccessfully, to pass a similar climate change bill.

Read about Mexico City's efforts.

Mexico makes the U.S. look stupid in this regard.

4. It wouldn't matter if we passed one here.

It would be toothless. Containing some arbitrary emissions standard to be reached three or four decades in the future. Of course if the said time is approaching and the number is still far off we can just adjust it again to some other far off date. The money flow must not be interfered with in any way and it wont be. Mother nature be damned if the masters of the universe would allow something like massive starvation and destruction of ecosystems to stand in the way of our right to plunder all the earths riches for ourselves today with no concept given to the long range effects.
It will never happen if we wait for them. The only action that can be taken that truly will start to make a difference is individually and even here, in northern California, where I would expect it to be an issue that was given reverence is treated like a spotty theory. Everyone claims to want to curb emissions and live more in flow with nature than banks and yet they still drive giant vehicles with "Keep Tahoe Blue" stickers that they gun at every light. They still shop, work and even invest in the corporations leading us into this nightmare.
Were all like vegans who work in a butcher shop and wonder why everyone is eating meat.

8. As am I. Vegans I know actually stand by what they believe.

Unlike many of the people I know who claim to love nature and want to protect it for their children by battling the known threat of climate change. And then turn around and work for Chevron, invest in the stock market, drive giant vehicles, fly in passenger jets and shop at corporate stores. Hence my failed comparison of them being like vegans working in butcher shops. Maybe I should of said like John Muir working as a lumberjack.
