Philadelphia rain can't dampen the enthusiasm at a Ron Paul rally
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
On a thoroughly miserable afternoon, with rain pelting their plastic ponchos and a penetrating cold turning their fingers blue, thousands of Ron Paul supporters stood for hours on Independence Mall Sunday, cheering and chanting for their candidate, as undeterred by his long odds of winning as they were by the weather.
Though all the other candidates in the Republican presidential primary, except Mitt Romney, have risen to prominence and then tripped, fallen, or withdrawn, Paul has remained at the back of the pack. The Associated Press' most recent tally gives the Texas congressman 63 of the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination. Yet he has vowed to stay in the race, counting on his loyal and impassioned followers to carry him into a position of influence at the Republican convention, if not to an upset victory.
"We're not one of the summer patriots," said Shawn House, carrying a gigantic inflated soft pretzel over his head. The pretzel bore the company name - Hempzel's - and the rallying cry "Free the Seed." "Dr. Paul still has a chance," House said. "Romney doesn't have it locked up."
snip...
Paul was scheduled to attend a fund-raising dinner Sunday night at the Marriott Hotel downtown, according to his campaign website. The $400 tickets were sold out.

Tara Schuster, 29, a cosmetologist from Scranton, said she had voted for Barack Obama in the last election but had switched to Paul's camp. "I'm supporting him because he follows the Constitution," she said. Asked to explain, she said, "I go with what my husband tells me."
Now THAT is a powerful endorsement!!

(7,865 posts)I mean, I don't have a problem with occasional blurbs about other parties that are informational, or to parties that are supportive of progressive or democratic ideals but Ron Paul is a waste.

(7,865 posts)Yeah, I imagine that. The thing I don't get is why?
I mean the only thing he agrees with progressives on is the war and military spending. The followers of St Paul are too absurd for words.

(55,445 posts)And most people tend to see in him what they want to see, backing Paul for one or two pet issues and his simple soundbites, while completely oblivious the rest of his philosophy...I'd said before Ron Paul is nothing more than a real-life far right Chauncey Gardener...
But it's all bullshit, anyway...Paul is still a republican and never a libertarian; although he wants everyone to think he is (He's what I call a "selective libertarian" ...He talks a good game, peppers his speeches with "liberty", "freedom," and "constitution" all the time, makes his occasional stealth symbolic votes, and his cultists lap it up, but it's all myth...
"BUT DR. PAUL IS AGAINST THE WARS/IMPERIAL EXPANSION/THE FED/WAR ON DRUGS/TORTURE/RENDITION/etc." is the rallying cry of his acolytes (including the one banned in this thread)...And my question to them is: "Oh really? Outside of the occasional symbolic vote or bill, why has he never done anything in his 30 years in congress about them? If any junior moron congresscritter can grind the entire House of Representatives down to a halt just to get their pet pork project added to a bill, what's stopping the good doctor? Why does Paul always make public appearances at far-right quasi-KKK rallies, but he's never within a thousand miles of a NORML rally, GLBT rights march or anti-war march??"
Needless to say, I never get a response to this...

(10,893 posts)if RP has such a large following as it appears at his rallies and on the Internet, where on Earth do they be at on election day? You'd think he would be the front-runner for the GOP instead of last place; on YouTube, all I see on most political videos are "RON PAUL 2012" and "ONLY RON PAUL CAN SAVE US" comments being spammed like there's no tomorrow. I have yet to see anyone say something like "ROMNEY 2012".
P.S. I agree with the OP; he is a fake Libertarian. It's incredible that someone can be allowed to call himself that while opposing women's right to abortions, and seeing fornication as immoral.
