(NE-R) Gov.: Some polling spots to be restored

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Paul Hammel

LINCOLN -- Gov. Dave Heineman stepped into the Douglas County polling place controversy Monday, announcing that some of the closed voting locations will be reopened, but not in time for the May 15 primary election.

Heineman said he asked Secretary of State John Gale to work with Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps to decide which polling places should be reopened for the general election in an effort to “help” Phipps.

The Republican governor, who appointed Phipps, said he stepped in after talking with Gale about the controversy, which he said had wrongly become a partisan issue.

Phipps, according to Heineman, has admitted that he made a mistake and has apologized for it.

polling places to remain open are based upon voter turn-out. I hope (doubt) he'll go back two election cycles when Obama was elected. The turn out for Obama was so high that he took and electoral seat in '08.
