Israel official: Military action against Iran still possible
Source: AP
JERUSALEM A senior Israeli government minister on Monday warned that taking military action against Iran's nuclear program is still an option despite last week's framework deal between world powers and the Islamic Republic.
The comments by Yuval Steinitz, Israel's minister for strategic affairs, reflected the alarm in Israel over last week's deal, which offers Iran relief from economic sanctions in exchange for scaling back its suspect nuclear program. Israeli leaders believe the framework leaves too much of Iran's nuclear infrastructure intact and could still allow it to develop the means to produce a nuclear weapon.
Steinitz, a confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's, said the government would spend the coming months lobbying the world powers negotiating with Iran to strengthen the language in the deal as they hammer out a final agreement. While stressing that Israel prefers a diplomatic solution, he said the "military option" still exists.
"It was on the table. It's still on the table. It's going to remain on the table," Steinitz told reporters. "Israel should be able to defend itself, by itself, against any threat. And it's our right and duty to decide how to defend ourselves, especially if our national security and even very existence is under threat."

All we are saying is give war a chance.

(157 posts)which I doubt, but it may be likely due to the proxy war.
Also another compounding problem for the IDF - the distance is too great for a round-trip unless they are also granted permission to land and refuel in Saudi Arabia or eastern Jordan.

The Saudis may not like the Israeli's, but they're terrified of the Iranians.

(11,014 posts)Even if Iran were to get a nuke, it is impossible that Iran would use it.
The thing Israelis fear is not the nuke itself but the fact that they cannot continue the genocide with impunity once Iran has a nuke.

Steinitz should have added that Israel is worried that peace may replace war in that part of the Middle East. The resultant peace could make it more difficult for Israel to create "facts on the ground" by attacking yet another Arab country.

Unleash Hell?
This is not a game, Mr. Obama said during a news conference at the White House timed to coincide with Super Tuesday voting in the Republican primaries in a number of crucial states.
Mr. Obama gave a staunch defense of his administration's actions to rein in Iran's nuclear ambitions and said tough sanctions put in place by the United States and Europe were starting to work and were part of the reason Iran had returned to the negotiation table.
The one thing we have not done is we have not launched a war, Mr. Obama said. If some of these folks think we should launch a war, let them say so, and explain to the American people.

Republicans got some 'splainin' to do because I don't think Bibi made his case this year, either.

(7,321 posts)Israeli's should consider Baby Yahoo a national embarrassment as well as a dangerous nut job. they should have resoundingly ousted him this past election. I'm not sure what it says about the people - perhaps the elections were rigged like our 2000, 2004 elections were... or perhaps not.
