Syrian Imam Sheihk Abdul Hadi Arwani ‘shot dead in London’

Source: The Independent

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man believed to have been a Syrian preacher was found with gunshot wounds in a car in north-West London today.

The Metropolitan Police have not yet formally identified the man who is in his 40s, but he has been named by local press as Imam Abdul Hadi Arwani. The man’s family have been alerted, according to police.

Mr Arwani was formerly an imam at the An-noor Masjid mosque in Acton, west London, and was a vocal critic of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Mr Arwani had regularly preached at the An-Noor Mosque in Acton, west London. The mosque has hosted the son of radical preacher Abu Hamza, and was the location for the November 2013 escape of terror suspect Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed, who dressed himself in a burka.

Police sources said it was possible that a feud at the mosque had turned violent.

I probably meant this one. Didn't realize Abu Hamza was a common name

ustafa Kamel Mustafa (Arabic: مصطفى كامل مصطفى‎; born 15 April 1958), also known as Abu Hamza al-Masri or Hook (Listeni/ɑːbuː ˈhʌmzə ɑːl ˈmɑːsˌriː/ أبو حمزة المصري, Abū Ḥamzah al-Maṣrī – literally, the Egyptian father of Hamza), or simply Abu Hamza, is an Egyptian cleric who was the imam of Finsbury Park Mosque in London, England, where he preached Islamic fundamentalism and militant Islamism.

In 2004, Hamza was arrested by British police after the United States requested he be extradited to face charges. He was later charged by British authorities with sixteen offences for inciting violence and racial hatred.[4] In 2006, a British court found him guilty of inciting violence, and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment. On 5 October 2012, after an eight-year legal battle, he was extradited from the UK to the United States to face terrorism charges [5][6] and on 14 April 2014 his trial began in New York.[7] On 19 May 2014, Hamza was found guilty of eleven terrorism charges by a federal jury in Manhattan. On 9 January 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.[8]

I'm still curious about motive and the other Abu Hamza circumstances are interesting as well.
