Japan resumes whale hunt
Source: Deutsche Welle
In 2014, the International Court of Justice banned Japan from further whaling activities, questioning the scientific justification for the hunt. But as of April 10, 2015, four ships have left port, off to kill whales.

As of Friday (10.04.2015), four Japanese whaling ships are on the way into the Pacific. By the end of this May, they may have killed up to 51 minke whales. Officials argue that the hunt is necessary for research into the effects whales have on coastal fishing. Just one year ago, the International Court of Justice in The Hague banned Japan from continuing its whale hunt.

Criminal slaughter of gentle giants and endangered species. This makes me sick.

(39,171 posts)your solution would simply give the Japanese a reason to provide military protection to the whalers.

Do the earth's oceans and its inhabitants belong to Japan to rape and pillage? Apparently so.

(7,018 posts)an old nation (some 3,000 years) with a size that is 11% smaller than California, and a population
that is 3.2 times larger. Japan is also very mountainous, leaving not much room for agriculture. For
more than a century the Japanese have had to import food, since they don't have the land to grow
enough to feed the entire population. The Japanese do depend heavily on the oceans to provide
animal protein. I've heard that the price of meat, for instance, is sky high. Most Japanese rarely
eat beef -- it simply costs too much.
By the way, if the world population keeps on growing, in time the people of our entire earth will be
dealing with the problems Japan is now facing. This will still take some time, of course.

There should be some intensely serious penalty connected to it. Those whales belong to the whole earth, not to Japan.

(6,171 posts)like right whales and blue whales. As long as they are only taking minke whales, there are no preservation issues, as there are literally hundreds of thousands of them.
There are of course the legal issues, but Im less concerned with them. My concern is the preservation of endangered species, and sometimes there are no protection laws for some endangered species like great white sharks, and Im very concerned about them being killed.
