Rauner hopes deal will speed resolution of union dispute

Source: ABC Chicago

CHICAGO -- Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration has agreed to allow government agencies to resume taking fees from the paychecks of non-union members to cover union representation while his lawsuit challenging the legality of the fees is resolved in court.

In a statement, Rauner's office said it agreed to the deal in exchange for union commitment to a faster timeline for resolving the dispute. Following the agreement, a St. Clair County associate judge issued an order requiring the Rauner administration to remit the fees.

The confrontation began last month when the new Republican governor issued an executive order ending what are called "fair share" fees, which nonmembers pay to cover the cost of non-political union activities that benefit all employees, such as collective bargaining. Rauner also sued more than two dozen public-employee unions, asking a federal judge to declare the dues unconstitutional. He contends that making the fees mandatory violates First Amendment free speech rights of employees who disagree with union policies. Unions filed a lawsuit of their own in state court seeking to permanently overturn Rauner's order.

"The administration and the unions have reached an agreement that will speed up the case and remove legal obstacles to resolving the underlying First Amendment issues as efficiently as possible," Rauner's office said in a statement. "As part of this deal, the unions agree to an expedited timeline for the case and to forego the possibility of compelled arbitration."

with the people in this state. Bruce the Douche is hurting all of us with his cuts to services. And yet he is paying his staff much more than Quinn ever paid his.

Every post here, and every newspaper article, seems to feature his face. I don't remember seeing Quinn's face that much. I despise the face!

My husband and I worked hard to keep Rauner out of office. I hope someone else is working to put him in jail. That is traditional anyway.

our Emperor, I mean governor, has graciously agreed to follow the law. I live in "down state" actually, central Illinois, and I sure didn't vote for this dumb ass. He has no clue whatsoever how government works, he just makes pronouncements for on high, and expects everyone else to toe the line. Can we impeach his ass yet?

Ruiner is by far the WORST Governor my state has had. He immediately went after the unions and on Autism Awareness Day, he stopped the 2015 funding for that program.. What a PRICK!!
