MoCo police take Philadelphia woman into custody for leaving son in woods

Source: W Post

By Emma Brown

A Philadelphia woman who allegedly left her quadriplegic son in the woods while visited her boyfriend in Maryland, has been hospitalized and will be served with an arrest warrant when she is released, Montgomery County Police said Sunday.

The woman’s male companion called police to a Silver Spring address on Friday night after learning that the boy had allegedly been left without care, said Capt. Paul Starks, a spokesman for Montgomery County Police.

“He learned some of information regarding these allegations and knew he had to involve law enforcement,” Starks said. Montgomery officials began communicating with police in Philadelphia, who obtained a warrant for the woman’s arrest after her 21-year-old son was found hungry and dehydrated near a Philadelphia park.

The mother was taken to a D.C.-area hospital for conditions that Sparks said he could not specify due to privacy restrictions. “When treatment is completed the warrant that the Philadelphia police obtained will be served and any steps regarding the extradition process will begin,” Starks said.
