Hillary Clinton Launches 2016 Presidential Campaign

Source: Huffington Post

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton officially announced that she would seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2016 on Sunday.

In a video released on her new campaign website, Clinton said that she was running.

"I'm running for president," Clinton says in the video. "Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times, but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top. Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion so you can do more than just get by. You can get ahead and stay ahead. Because when families are strong, America is strong."

"So I'm hitting the road to earn your vote. Because it's your time and I hope you'll join me on this journey."

A class seldom heard of that is falling further and further into poverty. One hears often about the middle class, and the beloved upper class.
However even if the politicians are only concerned with the middle class and especially the "investor" class, we not only exist, we are most of America.

If you want to ever meet one of us, leave your suburb, go to the poor part of the city (not the gentrified sections with the cool shops and restaurants) and start talking to people.

Most of our once decent paying jobs have been shipped overseas leaving jobs as clerks and waitresses to the rest of you, and we have to work multiples of them to fall just short of rent. If you slum it up you might see what Free trade and wall street loving pols have reduced most of us to. I imagine you would find us all a bit too ethnic and scary for such an adventure however.

Tell me, how many jobs do you have? How short on the rent are you in your lower class poor neighborhood on average?

Not many middle class people I know live in my neighborhood, actually none, because they can afford not to live like us.
I don't like make pretend, if you are too afraid to slum it just admit it rather than spreading bullshit.

I am talking about the working poor with two or three min wage jobs and disabled and elderly living on nothing but SS or temporary assistance. You people think you understand us even when you are middle class, but you don't, poor means being hungry, poor means getting your gas turned off or electric some times, working poor means many things, none of which are middle class.

I hope you get to remain so and not have to live like so many of us now have to, even if you are full of it.

Although, to be fair, she probably has to spend less time introducing herself to the American public than just about any one else in politics. Rebranding, possibly, but most Americans know who she is and and have an opinion. That's a big plus, but also comes with some downside.

It's a cute video, but it told me nothing about what Hillary wants to achieve as president.

All it says is that Hillary has lots of money to produce a very cute video.

I like the fact that she included different kinds of people, but all in all the video looked very, well, what we used to call, "Madison Avenue" to me.

What is behind the pretty faces, the cute kids and the puppy dog?

Sorry, I think we can do better than Hillary.

We shall see how she fares in the polls six months from now after the Republicans have challenged her. I do not plan to vote for her. It would take a lot to persuade me to bother to vote for her.

This video was sweet, but I hope she puts out one with more substance.

And I hope she allows herself to be interviewed by people who are skeptical about her candidacy.

We need a primary.

Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh. Please. This is a valid opinion, expressed appropriately. Get over it.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: You know, I came to DU to get away from r/w talking points on other internet sites; a sort of safe haven from the constant lies and innuendo about Democrats/progressives/liberals. I came here to work with people to debunk the media bs being catapulted into people's heads via hyperbole, lies, misdirection, selective quoting, out of context headings and subject lines, and the constant gish gallop of the corporate noise machine. If anyone on this board thinks that either of the Clintons is the same as a republican, maybe they should check what they've been reading and where it's from. No one is required to "love" or even "actively support" any politician. But to actively and repeatedly attack Democrats, maybe that kind of person would be happier elsewhere. Perhaps JDPriestly could find a "safe haven" site for people who hate the Clintons. There are plenty of those sites out there. It's going to be another long election cycle.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No better than Bush, Walker or Cruz? I'm not thrilled with Clinton either but...FUCK YOU. I hope this bullshit gets hidden.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

I think the people working on this campaign are a whole lot smarter than to use actors

The critics will have plenty of time to try to pick that image apart in the free-fire zone of the election campaign, but here she does not make an appearance in the 138-second video until past the 90-second mark. Instead, we see diverse images of modern America - young mothers, ethnic minorities, children of course, a gay couple holding hands, but also an older white woman about to retire and white worker on the factor floor – a representation of the Obama coalition from 2008 and 2012, but also some of those working-class and white voting blocs that have turned their backs on the current president.

Only after we hear about the plans of these people (who are the real thing, the campaign has said, not actors) does Mrs Clinton appear, telling viewers that she’s getting ready to do something too. She talks about Americans having fought their way back – a necessary nod to some economic recovery under Mr Obama – but then says that there is further to go. “Everyday Americans need a champion,” she says. “I want to be that champion.”

Hillary Clinton did not make it all on her own in the world of politics ... she is very much the product of her marriage to a man.

It is amusing to me to read the contortions the Hillary fans will go through to try and turn her into some kind of pioneering feminist heroine.

If elected President she will always be first identified in her biography as "former First Lady to President Bill Clinton, who preceded her in office".

One of the reasons I am against her candidacy is because I think she is phony.

I would much prefer to see the first woman President of the U.S. get there because of her own abilities and her very own political career.

person will be their Global and National representative. And all this moaning and groaning about not getting everything My Way is laughable. Time to grow up. It's not all about me/you.

Edit...just watched Bill Clinton do a commercial during the OU football game about a VA job site. Hmmm...interesting.

I wonder why they didn't show her interacting with the people in the video in some way. They could have used a small group setting with Hillary "listening" to people individually about their hopes, complaints, etc.

Don't get me wrong Hillary is my third choice with Sanders and Warren ahead of her. But, if she gets the nomination I will support her 100%. For now don't forget the Democratic Party candidate will start LEFT and by the primary will start moving to the RIGHT. This is an old political tactic start left and move to the "center" or in our new political parties move right of center. We all know we only have one party, the Republican Party. There are right of center and crazy right but they are both right of center. The overwhelming citizenship of the USA is left of center, staunch Democratic. Now the real Democratic party consist of Progressives that is how the Democratic Party used to be...

As far as focusing jobs, legislation, or policy on the Middle Class, well that's a lot more trouble.
