Clinton vows to defend Obamacare and calls for equal pay for women
Source: The Guardian
Hillary Clinton signaled at a campaign event on Wednesday that she was ready to stake her White House hopes on a defense of Barack Obamas signature healthcare law, potentially putting her on a collision course with Republican candidates who have said they would seek to repeal the law as one of their first acts in the Oval Office.
I am committed to trying to build on what works in the Affordable Care Act, Clinton said at a meeting with small-business owners during an event at a fruit distributor outside Des Moines, Iowa. Because 16 million people now have insurance who didnt have it.
...snip...
She heaped paragraphs of praise on Equal Pay day (the campaign day highlighting attempts to achieve salary parity for women), called for immigration reform and singled out healthcare as one piece of the Obama legacy worth protecting.

(32,076 posts)Perfect Hillary issue.
Did she push pay parity while a Walmart board member? Hmmm. No. Hmmm.
Not just pay equity but hiring and promotion for women and minorities.

(3,498 posts)How does she define "what works"?
Works for who exactly?
Imagine your industry had 16 million
NEW CUSTOMERS with a piece of legislation!
16 million new policy holders
certainly works for insurance companies!
Did Hillary mention guaranteeing
affordable access to healthcare?
Because Health Insurance is NOT
health care.
Larry Engels
(387 posts)Of course she will want to keep Obamacare insurance company-friendly.
Cosmic Kitten
(3,498 posts)It was an epic battle.
Healthcare reform would
have put the brakes on the
fleecing of SSI, Medicaid, and Medicare.
Which is why it didn't happen.
Larry Engels
(387 posts)Your comments about healthcare reform are unprovable.
RobinA
(9,886 posts)does not impress me as currently worded. Too much weasel language. There are ways to state unequivocally that she will support and improve by pushing for X, Y and Z. I can wait. I'm not voting for her as it currently stands, but I can be convinced. With actual policy ideas.
Cosmic Kitten
(3,498 posts)That she wants to keep
the "parts that work"
is disturbing.
Which parts don't work?
DrKZ
(53 posts)Given that she is such a good friend of Wall Street I am guessing that the parts that don't work are the parts that help poor people ... I will never ever forget what happened during their welfare reform (an orwellian euphamism meaning we don't care about single mothers or poor parents)

(36,392 posts)Oh, that's right. The Republicans might take all that money away from Big Insurance by "repealing Obamacare"
Serously, I hope at some point she weighs in on something that's not already a done deal

(46,192 posts)while a Senator, she proposed to amend and strengthen a provision of the Equal Pay Act of 1963.
you criticized her saying she didn't know about the Act, when in fact, it was you that didn't realize what she had proposed to update that act.
i'd expect you to know what you're talking about.
but then again, your purpose was to make Clinton sound stupid, not to be accurate.

(46,192 posts)of the law, when in fact, you didn't know what you were talking about.
no wonder you would rather talk about that post than this one which you have no answer to.
but we get it. have to raise a concern when something liberal is posted. we get it.

(31,947 posts)Are there two of you posting? Or are you speaking as the royal 'we' and speaking for all of DU? I am not going to speak on the subject with you because you like to stalk me from thread to thread. You are not even slightly interested in a serious discussion.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)you tried to make it sound like Clinton was so ignorant she hadn't even heard of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, when I pointed out that in fact, not only had she heard of it, she attempted to amend it and strengthen one of its sections through amendment while she was a Senator.
then I asked why YOU didn't know that.
no wonder you don't want to respond, you'd have to ridicule yourself if you were to be fair about it.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)That person is often you.
For example, when Harry Reid was injured, you suggested the statement put out by his office was a lie and that he in fact fell from the equipment.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014978685#post19
and you got into a huge argument with half the people in that thread over it.
and this happens all the time.
I'm not stalking you. For some reason, you seem to like opportunities where you can publicly doubt a liberal or Democrat here.
