A grand jury has indicted the former Peachtree City police chief on a reckless conduct charge.
William McCollom admitted to shooting his wife, Maggie, on New Years Day. He called 911 and told the operator hed just accidentally shot her while they were in bed.
The gun was in the bed, William McCollom said on the 911 call. (I) went to move it, put it to the side, then it went off.
McCollom told police his barking dog woke him up so he got his gun and checked the house. He then went back to bed and put the pistol under the sheets.

(135,425 posts)I have a relative that was killed by a reckless driver a year and a half ago. We've been to court a dozen times, and it's been nothing but one delay after another. The DA's office tells us we'll be lucky if we see anything done in the next six months, absent a plea deal.
In an odd twist, I met that Peachtree City DA when he was in private practice. He was a very capable lawyer. I was quite surprised to see that he's the DA now!
