How in the world can Christie cut that? It's a bare minimum already. And yet that is the average so if he cuts that, he will cut the many recipients who are getting even less down to what? Below subsistence.
He must want to put a lot of elderly ladies in their 80s out on the streets.
What a cruel, heartless creep. Christie. Cruel, heartless creep.

(7,627 posts)Initially, Christie was billing himself as a moderate repub able to reach across the aisle to get stuff done. Of course after bridge gate he showed his true colors.
Now, he is steering hard right even more. I suppose he is trying to blend in with the nutjobs to try to get the nomination.
He is basically sabotaging his own campaign. The only asset he had over the rest of the GOP field is that he was viewed as moderate. If he is just another wacko why would he get the nomination ? what would differentiate him ?
Good thing for us that repubs cant get their act together.

(75,480 posts)or privatizing a program altogether. That's the intent. I believe they want to privatize. There is that 2.6 trillion lying there in the fund and the banksters are itching to get their hands on it. There is no more surplus in the Treasury to raid so they their eyes are focused on SS. Christie is just one of their tools.

Congress Targets Social Security with Fast-Track Commission Plan
March 26, 2015
News Release
Legislation introduced in the House by Rep. John Delaney (D-MD) would create a Social Security Commission designed to fast-track reforms and insulate Members of Congress from the public backlash over harmful benefit cuts that co-sponsor Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) says the commission will consider, including: raising the retirement age, means testing and the Chained CPI.
Yeah, which one of these is not like the other. I suppose, if a DEM wants to do it, those are ponies, right? And Obama shorted out that Third Rail with the Cat Food Commission and putting Chained CPI on the table. I am confident that, if Hillary proposed Chained CPI, we would all be told that hey, it must be necessary (instead of raising the cap on her donors) and anyway, the safety nets are just a herd of ponies and that cuts would affect men and women and children equally, so there.
Christie is courting people who think his ideas are swell. That is all that is important to him.

(14,255 posts)They are thinking of campaign contributions.
This is why there needs to be some sort of term limit for Congress - once 90% of them get there, it looks like they immediately start working on getting reelected, raising money, and forging relationships with lobbyists so they can get a swell job afterwards, and working for the corporations while they are in office. And we just say oh, it has to be that way, don'cha know..
The corporate types do not want to pay the matching funds. They don't. Kinda funny, in a horrific way - the corporations do not want to pay matching funds, Wall Street want the funds so they can gamble with them and bleed them for fees. The people who need Social Security to live are, in a phrase that has been attributed to Kissinger, just useless eaters, as far as the 1% and their lackeys are concerned..

(14,255 posts)the useless eaters remark to Kissinger, and whenever I read about all the people killed in the Middle East, and of all the people dying of disease and starvation in Africa, I am reminded of Kissinger's lament that there are just too many people, and birth control won't work quickly enough to lower the numbers.
