WASHINGTON U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., fired back at Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, on Wednesday over the closing of Douglas County polling places.
Heineman recently announced that some closed polling places would re-open for the general election, but said the move had nothing to do with Nelson's call for a federal investigation into the closings.
I think Sen. Nelson has made this a more partisan issue than it needs to be, Heineman said.
Nelson responded Wednesday by saying that he waited for Heineman and Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale to investigate the closings on their own and they declined. He said it was only after they passed on a state-level inquiry that he requested an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
