CHARLESTON, S.C. The Machinists union is withdrawing its request to hold a union vote next week for production workers at Boeings manufacturing operations in North Charleston.
In a statement released Friday, the union said it is withdrawing its request for the vote because of what it called a toxic environment. The union had said earlier in the week that it was reviewing its request for a vote, which faced many challenges.
Union organizer Mike Evans said that what he called an atmosphere of threats, harassment and unprecedented political interference has intimidated workers and a fair election is not possible.

(86 posts)Mcnerney is from the Jack Welch school of assholes who would screw workers over just to screw them, and he will fight with every thing he has to prevent them from having any right to fight back. He isn't in it just to become richer, the power to screw people is how he gets his kicks.

(469 posts)... comes from a newspaper in Seattle, where Boeing is HQ'd. So the people who financed and mandated the creation of that "atmosphere of threats, harassment and unprecedented political interference" could pat each other on the back as they finish reading it, for a job "well done".

(752 posts)And while I'm sure that what you say about self-congratulations at the top is true, Boeing's decision a few years ago to build its 787 Dreamliner in South Carolina, because its union in Washington was "too strong," has had an impact that keeps Seattlites who actually work for a living keenly interested in the Boeing operations in South Carolina.
