Announcing an Earth Day trip to Florida on Saturday, President Barack Obama used his weekly address to say climate change can no longer be denied or ignored.
Attitudes to climate change among Republicans and in Florida recently made national news, after it was reported that the states Department of Environmental Protection had issued an unwritten policy to forbid state workers from using the term.
We were instructed by our regional administrator that we were no longer allowed to use the terms global warming or climate change or even sea-level rise, a former DEP employee was quoted as saying in a report by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting. Sea-level rise was to be referred to as nuisance flooding.

(27,509 posts)Obama will visit the Florida Everglades on Earth Day to talk about climate change
By Chris Mooney April 18 at 6:20 AM
Saturday morning, President Obama gave a speech on climate change to preview a bigger speech on climate change.
In the Presidents weekly Saturday morning address, he declared that hes headed to the Florida Everglades Wednesday Earth Day to talk about the way that climate change threatens our economy.
The Everglades is one of the most special places in our country, the president said. But its also one of the most fragile. Rising sea levels are putting a national treasure and an economic engine for the South Florida tourism industry at risk.
Climate change can no longer be denied or ignored, said Obama.

(13,297 posts)They keep coming out of the woodwork... like termites... and when I hear 'big tent of the Republican Party' I always picture a termite-infested house being tented.
To no avail -- they, like cockroaches, are replicating under garbage piles and in sewers around the country.
