Video: Islamic State kills Ethiopian Christians in Libya

CAIRO (AP) Islamic State militants in Libya shot and beheaded groups of captive Ethiopian Christians, a video purportedly from the extremists showed Sunday. The attack widens the circle of nations affected by the group's atrocities while showing its growth beyond a self-declared "caliphate" in Syria and Iraq.
The release of the 29-minute video comes a day after Afghanistan's president blamed the extremists for a suicide attack in his country that killed at least 35 people and underscores the chaos gripping Libya after its 2011 civil war and the killing of dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
It also mirrored a film released in February showing militants beheading 21 captured Egyptian Christians on a Libyan beach, which immediately drew Egyptian airstrikes on the group's suspected positions in Libya. Whether Ethiopia would or could respond with similar military force remains unclear, as government officials offered no immediate comment on the video.
Ethiopia long has drawn the anger of Islamic extremists over its military's attacks on neighboring Somalia, whose population is almost entirely Muslim. While the militant in the video at one point said "Muslim blood that was shed under the hands of your religion is not cheap," it did not specifically mention the Ethiopian government's actions.

EDS NOTE: GRAPHIC CONTENT - This undated image made from a video released by Islamic State militants, Sunday, April 19, 2015, appears to show the killing of a group of captured Ethiopian Christians in Libya. The 29-minute video released online Sunday purportedly shows two groups of captives. It says one group is held by an IS affiliate in eastern Libya and the other by an affiliate in the south. A masked fighter delivers a long statement before the video switches between footage that purportedly shows the captives in the south being shot dead and the captives in the east being beheaded on a beach. (23,946 posts)Watching the video is not something anyone should do, it is what they want. They have no ability to strike North America...except with fear.
And they sure know how to touch the heart of fear in America and what sells with it's childish media....easy to do with a fear mongering and fear selling media forwarding their every production and battle success...while downplaying any defeat, just to keep the domestic rubes fearful and controllable and wanting war against an enemy with no ability to inflict harm half a world away .....the American mass media and ISIS are allies in this thing called "terror".

(45,319 posts)BBC today:
"Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has travelled to Egypt for a "visit of condolence" following the murders of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya.
The group of migrant workers were kidnapped and beheaded by Islamic State (IS) militants in February.
The archbishop will be meeting religious and political leaders leaders on his visit, including the Coptic Christian Pope and the Grand Imam.
He has called for more support for Christians facing persecution."

I used to live in a neighborhood full of Coptic Christians and I knew a few of their elders as neighbors. I am of course not religious, but these were very kind and excellent neighbors to me as well as to the many other diverse faiths and ethnic identities in that unique urban slice.

Bringing back THAT Islam of yesteryear sadly makes life worse for a billion and a half peaceful and tolerant Muslims worldwide. Hopefully they will rise up and take their religion back from the nutcases funded by Saudi Arabia and trained in Pakistan.

(753 posts)And I'll be one for the first to say that a lot of people are afraid to talk about Islamic terrorism. What I was trying to point out is that when people get riled up they wont see the difference between a good guy or bad guy.
