Office manager posing as dentist performed root canals for cash, police say

Valbona Yzeiraj had two identities, police say.

Most days, she was a personable office manager at a dental practice in the Bronx.

But when her boss was away on business, the 45-year-old Albanian native donned a white lab coat and transformed into a licensed dentist known as “Dr. Val,” according to the New York Daily News.

“She diagnosed patients, she took X-rays, she injected patients with anesthetics, and she performed root canals,” Bronx Assistant District Attorney Patrick McCadden said in court Thursday, according to CBS News.

Although in 2010 I had a tooth removed by an oral surgeon, in my regular dentist's office...I told her he was a butcher. Sheesh...I thought he was going to extract my head.

5. In my very long life, I've never experienced a root canal performed by a

solo practitioner without an assistant of some sort close at hand. Was this person working alone?
