Poland protests Mattel game that refers to 'Nazi Poland'
By VANESSA GERA, Associated Press | April 24, 2015 | Updated: April 24, 2015 9:03am

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The Polish government has demanded that toy producer Mattel recall a party game and correct a card that refers to "Nazi Poland," officials said Friday.

Poles find such language offensive because Poland was never allied with Germany and was in fact subjected to a brutal occupation by Nazi Germany throughout World War II.

Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said that the Polish embassy in Washington has asked Mattel to withdraw "Apples to Apples," a game in which players compare different things. In a statement, the embassy said the wording is "completely inconsistent with the historical truth and detrimental to the good name of our country." The Warsaw government is also using Twitter to call on people to protest the game.

The disputed card is entitled "Schindler's List" and says: "1993 Steven Spielberg film. Powerful, real-life story of a Catholic businessman who eventually saved over 1,000 Jews in Nazi Poland."

They really should have written "Nazi-occupied Poland" or "German-occupied Poland". n/t PoliticAverse Apr 2015 #1

… they have owned up to their past like no other nation.

People who collaborated with the Nazis… not so much. The Nazi's could not have done what they done with out the willing participation of the nations populations that they occupied. Denmark is the exception. Denmark resisted the Nazis and were able to save almost their entire Jewish population.

It was true there were Poles who saved Jews. It was the case in every nation under nazi occupation.

Poland has always had a high level of anti-semitism. Poles willing sent millions of Jews to the gas chambers.

There were also many pogroms at the end of the 19th early 20 century. That is the reason why millions including my ancestors came to America. Most American Jews can trace there heritage in America to that time period.
