Charles Thomas, N.C. speaker's top aide, linked to lobbyist
Source: N&O
RALEIGH -- The chief of staff to state House Speaker Thom Tillis has been in an intimate relationship with a lobbyist for the North Carolina Home Builders Association, a special interest group that often seeks help from the legislature and provides money to political campaigns across the state.
Charles Thomas, Tillis chief of staff, resigned Thursday evening after being questioned about the relationship by The News & Observer.
Tillis issued a brief statement to The N&O, saying Thomas verbally offered his resignation. I have accepted it this evening.
Both Thomas and Hayes are married to other people, according to public records.

(2,978 posts)Yes, I know they're raging hypocrites by cheating on their spouses while advocating Amendment One, but many Congresscritters nationally are married to and/or regularly date lobbyists and it isn't national news (nor is it required to be disclosed, unless maybe there is a direct connection between legislation they're writing and the person they're dating).
A private detective was following these two around restaurants in Raleigh. Maybe it was one of the cheated upon spouses, in which case I could understand, but it just icks me out that our party might have operatives who are watching and reporting to a statewide newspaper whom people kiss in the corner of Tyler's Tap Room.
I know, I know. . . we need to play dirty, too. But, yuck--their mud is gross!

(5,061 posts)I have been rather unimpressed with our state party's organization. The fact that we controlled the legislature foir over 100 years until recently has more to do with the utter fecklessness of the NC GOP than our party's organization. Besides, with the Edwards trial and the ongoing controversy over David Parker, the NC Democratic Party isn't really focused on looking at people's personal lives.
But mainly we don't have our shit together enough to do something like this. Most likely this is a spouse, personal enemy or some sort of professional enemy.
Still, with the marriage amendment on the ballot, there are some swell ironies. According to the nutjobs who support the marriage amendment:
"Marriage serves a vital and universal societal purpose to channel biological drive and sexual passion that might otherwise become socially destructive into enduring family units that have the best opportunity to ensure the care and education of any children produced by that biological drive and sexual passion."
Of course, improperly channeled sexuality is apparently only socially destructive when Democrats do it.
