GOPer Slams Texas Guv For 'Pandering To Idiots' On Possible Military Takeover

Source: Talking Points Memo

"I am horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to those who do," Smith wrote.

"I am appalled that you would give credence to the nonsense mouthed by those who instead make decisions based on internet or radio shock jock driven hysteria," he added. "Is there ANYBODY who is going to stand up to this radical nonsense that is cancer on State and Party?"

First sentence of the letter:

Let me apologize in advance that your letter pandering to idiots who believe that US Navy Seals and other US military personnel are somehow a threat to be watched has left me livid.

That pretty much explains it. No GOPer currently holding elected office dares call out these nutbags. You speak the truth and you will get turned out by your GOP base. Hence the lunacy of the GOP.

I guess he knew that bush/cheney had his in their clenches while he was still in that administration.

I find it fitting that his capitulation to them, his going along with them, his not standing up to them - has made all those nice loud speculations about him being president someday just evaporate into thin air. You sacrificed not only your soul but whatever might have been left of your political future, colin. You let them finish you. Was it worth it?

I used to respect colin powell. Not anymore. He could have made a HUGE statement by refusing to carry their water at the UN. Hell, with his clout at that time, he might even have thrown an unremovable monkey wrench into their eagerly-pushed and long-desired war plans. He didn't want to, initially, but went along anyway. Coward.

He's going around now making speeches, mostly about his military career, not his boot-licking follies.

beginning about 15 years ago through now about this crazy nation. There are actors in NY and H'wood who would jump at the chance. Just picking actors to portray the Republicans would be funny. Charlie Chaplin is dead and he can't play GWB but maybe Billy Crystal would be a runner-up. Pres. Obama can play himself and we could get Cruz to play himself. The film would win an Oscar.
