Bridgegate: Bill Baroni, Bridget Kelly indicted on 9 counts

Source: Newark Star-Ledger

Two key figures in the Bridgegate scandal — Bill Baroni and Bridget Anne Kelly — were each indicted Friday on nine counts, according to court documents unsealed today.

Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Kelly, a former deputy chief of staff of Gov. Chris Christie, allegedly conspired to close the Fort Lee lanes of the George Washington Bridge in 2013.

He fulfills ever rotten quality that Republicans admire. Typical New Jersey mob boss without a conscience. He looks like the fat man version of Al Capone.

I was not expecting 9 charges for each of the accused though (3 or 4 charges were expected).

If the Feds are willing to let Baroni and Kelly to take the fall on Bridge(t)-Gate without giving them immunity, they must have something even bigger on Christie. His relationship with David Samson alone (hiring him to run the Port Authority while he was running a law firm whose clients did business with the Port Authority) is more than enough...

If he needed Wildstein and Associates to get to Christie, he would have started tossing around immunity deals like Frisbees. But Wildstein appears to have taken a plea deal, and everyone else has been indicted? That says to me that the Feds have what it takes get to Christie on their own.

33. "David Wildstein is a criminal and a liar," (Baroni's attorney)

Let the finger pointing begin.

Baroni's attorney held a press conference this afternoon in Newark. The attorney, Michael Baldasarre, said Baroni did nothing wrong.

"David Wildstein is a criminal and a liar," Baldasarre said.

Later, Kelly appeared at a press conference at her attorney's office in Roseland. She also called Wildstein "a liar."
