Police: Officer shot, rushed to hospital in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) Police in New York City say an officer has been shot and rushed to a hospital.
Police didn't immediately release the officer's condition. He's been taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens.
A spokesman for the New York Fire Department says the shooting was reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at 104 Road and 212 Street in the Queens Village neighborhood.

(28,394 posts)He was listed in critical but stable condition. A high-ranking police source said his injuries were not life-threatening. (He was shot in the cheek, according to this article.)

The NYPD identified the man believed to be the shooter as Demetrius Blackwell, 35, adding that he has an extensive arrest history.
Bratton said that with the help of witnesses, police officers were able to track him down at a home near the scene of the shooting.
However, police were unable to find the weapon used in the shooting. Bratton said warrants will be used in the search.
