Magnitude-3.9 quake shakes buildings across Los Angeles

Source: AP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A small earthquake has rattled the greater Los Angeles area, shaking buildings and waking residents. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 hit at 4:07 a.m. Sunday. It was centered a mile northwest of the View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood, just north of the cities of Inglewood and Culver City.

A magnitude-3.5 earthquake hit the same area on April 12.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement early Sunday that it briefly went into "earthquake mode." The alert was lifted after fire officials surveyed more than 470 square miles in the Los Angeles area and conducted safety checks.

I didn't feel it but several of my friends and family did.

I'm blaming fracking in the region.

A warning that the overdue "BIG ONE" is just weeks perhaps days away?

Or does AP just know that posting news about a 3.9 quake will generate traffic because of the Nepal tragedy?

Is the recent activity on California unprecedented?

The area has lots of modest earthquakes all the time, and in my opinion, 3.9 is just on the higher end of modest:

2 earthquakes today
8 earthquakes in the past 7 days
33 earthquakes in the past month
344 earthquakes in the past year

Went back & looked at the past records & although having a 3.5 & 3.9 this close together is not common & on the high end of what happens regularly it is probably nothing but normal shaking...Hopefully.

It's known as the Green Valley fault on the northern end, and it let loose in 1893, causing extensive damage in Vacaville and Winters, and I live in that area.

any trees that don't burn, and any air he can't see.

A 4.0 is barely noticeable, however.
